Hello,
I really need to lose 2 stone in 4 or possibly 3 months time as my friend is having a baby and I would really like to feel more positive in myself and my appearance and be healthier to be able to support my son and keep up with him too, and also help out with my friends children.
I used to be slim but gained a lot of weight, lost most of it then put it all on again in this past year or two. I would love to be 2 stone lighter and feel happier again.
Will be greatful to anyone that can help. Thank you.

Don't make up an arbitrary timeline. I mean, trying to lose 28 lbs in four months because your friend is having a baby has got to be the most...creative...timeline device I've ever read on this board. Focus on building long term healthy habits, not on your friend's gestation period, and you'll do fine. With only 28 lbs to lose a rate of .5 to 1 lb per week should be celebrated.26

2 Stone ( 40 lbs. ) in 4 months is around 3lbs a week ... faster then most would consider safe/reasonable without medical supervision.
Possible ? Sure, just about anything is possible. Not sure its plausible unless you have a lot of weight to lose ... and you wont find anyone here recommending more than 2lb/week, without some outside intervention/assistance.
My advice ... set a more reasonable goal, or seek help from a professional.2 -
Sure, it's possible. Assuming a loss of 7 lbs water, 14 lbs fat, 7 lbs misc 'other' tissue, you would need an overall calorie deficit of around 60,000 calories for a calorie deficit of about 500 per day, assuming you can cut half the sodium/potassium/salts from your diet and walk at a gentle pace for about two hours a day for exercise.
It's a pretty aggressive schedule. I wouldn't chose to do it, but if you want to be that aggressive, I strongly advise you to consult your doctor about your goals - they should be able to provide you with a lot more information about how best to go about achieving them without running into health problems along the way.2 -

A stone is 14 pounds not 20 pounds!4 -

Hi! It's definitely doable as I have almost done it myself (25.5lbs) since I joined MFP and started properly at the end of June but I can't stress enough the importance of eating your calories set by MFP and ensuring you look after yourself, exercise and drink lots of water to stay hydrated. Prior to MFP I was crash dieting for fun but only through listening to my MFP friends, reading the boards etc have I actually learned how to control my weight in a healthy and sustainable way. Good luck! X5

From what I've learnt in 13 weeks on MFP, the issue is not whether you can make the weight loss but what happens when you get there
do you just carry on at your huge deficit or what? How do you learn to live at your goal weight?
Seems planning for that and scheduling a taper in your deficit so you arrive at goal eating your long term maintenance calories is the way to go
But what do Iknow, I still got 100 to go6 -
It took me a year to lose 70 lbs, then 6 months to lose my last 10 lbs, and that was just to put me in the middle of the healthy BMI range.
So unless you have a lot to lose, I don't see that happening, at least not in a healthy way (without crash dieting and losing too much muscle).0 -
I'd say make a lifestyle change and lose 1-2 lbs a week
I've done all sorts weightloss rubbish it comes back on if you don't find a lifestyle plan
Rome wasn't built in a day and tbh if you go in harsh you'll fall off plan and end up heavier
Take it from someone who's yoyoed 30 years and wish I'd just took it as it came off slower is better than yoyoing2 -

What stood out to me in your post is that you gained a lot of weight, lost and then regained. That sounds like you might want a more sustainable long term approach this time rather than setting deadlines and fastest possible loss.
I would suggest choosing 1 lb a week as your goal. Give yourself as long as it takes- might be 6 months or might be longer.
Eat the food you are going to eat the rest of your life and learn appropriate portion sizes for you.
Learn how to deal with holidays, stress, restaurants, etc. without going overboard.

All of this and I would add...
Log everything you eat as accurately and honestly as possible, ideally using a food scale.
Set goals for yourself and your health, not an arbitrary deadline based on an event (especially an event that has nothing to do with you or your health - how does the impending birth of a friend's baby become your target weight loss deadline?)1
