Better shape now than in high school!

For me, high school was nearing 20 years ago - for a point of reference. I weighed then, somewhere near what I weigh now - around 223lb. However, between H.S. and 2008, I managed to get further out of shape and add about 100 pounds to my frame. I lost some weight a few years ago by changing my diet alone, but it didn't stick (I didn't have MFP). I gained a lot of it back in a year's time. In March this year, I got serious about changing my diet - for good - and exercising in order to help burn fat instead of muscle. I did my research before starting and landed here with MFP. Fast forward to today. Back down nearly 100 pounds (total) to 223 (though not stopping here). The difference this time is my overall condition. While obviously, I'm not in good shape - yet, the exercise I have been doing has made an incredible difference. My personal point of reference came tonight when I decided I had lost enough weight to add jogging/running to my cardio days and start mixing it in with rowing and biking. In H.S. during gym class we had the dreaded 1 mile run to see if we could qualify for some award or something. I never completed the mile without stopping to walk and was never even close to making the required time. I didn't care at the time - I was (am) a geek and didn't feel that fitness was important. That's changed! And on my first jog on the treadmill this evening, I walked / jogged for 28 minutes including a full 12 minute mile jog. I don't know if that would have qualified me for the award, but at closer to 40 than 30, I'm happy to be able to say that this old geek is in better shape than that young geek who couldn't make 4 laps around the track...
Sorry for the long-winded story. Carry on, all.
