35 Days, Not Much Change...

Hello,

So i began recording (again) back on September 9th and have been as accurate as possible. I began at roughly 267 and am at 265 35 days later. Given all the success stories here at MFP it feels a bit wrong to question the process, but my results have shown little to no change.
- Current weight is 266, 5'9, age 43.
- Yes i weight my food on a scale.
- Yes i record everything.
- No i have no measured my waist, neck ect.

Of the 35 days i had 10 cheat days, but the total calorie deficiency is still higher than the total consumed. I am limited to 1-3 days of light exercise due to bulging disc and chronic migraines, but 2+ times a week i'm typically able to walk 25min for about 1.25 miles each walk.

Something to note, i weighed 262 3 days ago and noticed the 4/5 lbs change after making a reduced sodium chicken and cabbage/veggie soup - No noticeable edema, but am on day two of diuretic just in case.

My suggested calorie intake is 1900, so even if were off a bit on the calorie intake (which i doubt) i feel i should have lost more than the 6lbs total thus far. Feel free to take a look at my profile - Maybe you'll see something i am not. Opinions welcomed!

Thank you.

So you lost five pounds in a month. That's pretty good.

You'll need to open up your diary if you would like us to find something.

As of today its a 1lb loss. Profile is open now.

I guess i am making comparisons to the msg we get after completing the days count which suggests "you'll weigh this amount in 5 weeks if you eat this way" ect ect. According to MFP i should be in the 250'ish range( which would be the 2lbs a week loss i desired) not 1lb down...

Your "low sodium" soup still contained a lot of sodium, so that likely did contribute to your fluctuation up. As for the rest of your logging, are you truly weighing every single item? I see a lot of cup entries and even amounts logged.

For many days you exceeded your sodium (suggestion) limits. That alone will cause you to hold on to water. It might be better to lower your sodium rather than taking a diuretic (a natural one would be coffee - black). I would try it for just a week, lower sodium. I know we are suppose to be able to eat anything we want as long as calories out outweighs calories in. But for some, some foods just don't make our bodies happy. It's like maybe you are allergic to sodium, and your body is holding on to water to protect itself. Just my two cents.

Your 1900 goal was a starting point. It's been a month so it's time to adjust based on results. For your stats, your results are suboptimal. I'd cut 150-200 calories per day.

Are you including any oils used in the preparation of your food? 1 tablespoon of oil adds 120 calories.

Also, do you log what you drink?

But...you haven't "eaten this way" every day. You've had 10/35 cheat days. That's a third of the time you go over your calories by I don't know how much. And you've still lost 5 lbs.

I noted that as well. That's a cheat day roughly every third day. And still lost 5 pounds in a month? I'd call that a win.

This plus looking at your diary it appears that you don't weigh eggs, cereal (differences weight vs cups can be huge), oatmeal, bread or crackers.

You're not just a pound down, weight loss isn't linear, at the beginning your weight loss can be completely masked by water retention.

1lb of fat is approximately equivalent to 3500 calories, to gain 1lb you would need to eat that amount above your maintenance intake. I am fairly sure you didn't 14000 calories above your maintenance intake in the last couple of days, relax and trust the process.

If weighing regularly, use a trendweight app like Happy Scale or Libra, it will help you smooth out the fluctuations on a graph and give you an idea of how much of a deficit you are actually in, if you're not seeing as much of a deficit as you should be, tighten up your logging per the replies above.

I'm with the others - you cheat 1/3 of the time and are still losing! I would be thrilled with that!!!
