Too much water??

Does anybody know about some principle of drinking too much water being bad for your health/diet? I am not talking about like insane amounts of water that could kill you. But I saw an article about "common diet mistakes" (leading to an ad for the book Eat for Heat) that is suggesting that the whole notion of drinking lots of water (8 glasses a day or whatever) is actually a hindrance? maybe there is a balance that is just right instead of just drinking lots and lots?
Does anyone know if there is anything to that? Here I have been so proud of myslef being disciplines enough drinking 72+ ounces a day, and I am hoping that its not a health misconception

I don't know why it would be a hindrance but it's not a requirement. As long as you're urine isn't dark then you're getting enough water. Drink when you're thirsty and don't worry about some required minimum number....it doesn't exist.0

It's true that when you start drinking more water than your body is accustomed to (usually only if you haven't been getting the recommended amount on a regular basis and are borderline dehydrated) your body will initially try to retain the water you consume, which can lead to an increase in weight, but it's mostly water weight, and should dissipate soon after you start drinking water on a more regular basis.
Not everyone is the same size, so not everyone needs the same amount of water. It differs based on your size and the amount and intensity of your exercise. If you sweat a lot, you'll obviously need more water. I've read that to get a good base amount for the amount of water you want to drink, divide your weight in half and drink that number in ounces, and drink more according to thirst and exercise needs.
EXample: If you weigh 150 lbs, 150 divided by 2 = 75, so aim for 75 oz/ day
You want to try to space your water consumption throughout the day, too, rather than chugging a huge amount at one time.0 -
i wonder this too. I drink anywhere from 20-35 cups of water a day. Which is like 6-7 liters.0
