Wine lovers....

In a perfect world I would live on only red wine, cheese, sausage and crackers.
But I don't obviously.
However, I know you can fit wine into your "budget" of calories. Does it still affect your weight the next day even if you stay within your allowance?
Just looking for peoples experiences. I usually don't gain any extra from just wine....more from the added snacking. lol

If you're within calories you are fine. Whether it affects scale weight the next day is utterly irrelevant. Depending how much you drink, if anything you're likely to be lighter the next day, because alcohol is a diuretic. That will come straight back on though as you replenish fluids throughout the day.3

I too am a wine lover and used to drink 2-3 glasses a night. But obviously that no longer fits into my 1200 calorie budget. Once in awhile I am low enough after dinner to squeeze in a 4 ounce glass, but most of the time I just skip it. When I go out with friends, I do drink a few and just go over my limit that day. Usually the next day I knock out a few calories to make up for it. Can't have it all I guess. And I like your red wine, cheese, sausage, & cracker world. (I had cheese & crackers & pepperoni for lunch today, but sadly no wine)4

Lol...my God...some days I go light on calories just so I can drink at night.11

If i have calories left after dinner in the evening i let myself have a glass of wine instead of other snacking. I dont plan it in and I have to hit my protein target for the day.
I might occasionally allow a glass if Ive done a LOT of exercise.0 -
I don't find it helpful to focus on what might cause results on the scale the very next day as that's just water weight. I look at the long term trend and my long term trend is that it doesn't matter if I have wine or not as long as I'm consistently meeting my calorie goal.5

I do sometimes get bloated if I have more than 2 glasses of wine and don't also drink plenty of water.1

There was a time (when all three of our kids were teens) that my DH and I had nightly wine with meals Now, I save it for special occasions so maybe 2-3 times per month. It's all about choices and where you want to spend your calories - I look at long term also.0

I drank wine while losing weight, usually a glass a night, sometimes two. I didn't harm my weight loss as I factored it into my calories for the day - but I have always gone for a moderate deficit with eating back exercise calories, and would likely not have been able to fit it in on 1200 calories without dedicating exercise calories to it.
Now that I'm in maintenance, I still continue to have a couple of glasses each night.3 -
I'm usually lighter if I have a couple glasses of wine. So I'm considering it my new weight loss plan, "Drink to lose weight".

That could be a new fad diet. "The Wine Diet"3

I've been having a glass or two of red wine at night budgeted into my diet. It's working for me so far. I measure the amount I want into a pretty, glass decanter which slows down how much I drink. There's some nice dark chocolate budgeted in there too!!! I little wine & chocolate after dinner is a pleasure I didn't want to give up.2

I gave up wine altogether for about 6 months while I was in a pretty steep deficit. I find it really stimulates my appetite. In maintenance, I limit myself to 2 glasses of red per week, and always out. I don't keep wine in the house except when we have guests.0

I love wine too!! I am trying to lose weight so I am not drinking during the week. Plus, I think it impacts my sleep and just want to be in a fat burning mode. Wit that said, I probably was having closer to 3 glasses a night. I am going to have a couple on the weekends and budget them into my calories for the day. I’ll let you know how it goes on a month0

This is the opposite of me, I find that a glass or two of wine really dulls my appetite and helps me eat less than I would otherwise want.
I think your post underscores the importance of understanding how alcohol personally impacts you as an individual and making a decision from there. It's meaningless if other people can regularly drink and maintain a deficit if you makes it harder for you to because it stimulates your appetite. Likewise, it makes no sense to completely avoid alcohol because other people do if you find that it isn't a challenge for you.
I know a lot of people do find it harder to control their food intake when they drink and that is something to consider.0
