Hi all just wondering how many calories I should log when exercising at the gym I burn about 200 calories based on the treadmill and cross trainer I also do weights for 30 minutes. I know the machines calories isn't accurate and it's based on a person of average weight? Anyway I'm about 5 stone overweight so I should be burning more than what the gym machines say because I'm a lot heavier ? Plus with the weight lifting. I'm confused what i should be logging!! Thank you

When I first started I was really fixated on determining the exact amount of calories burned. Lots of conflicting numbers out there based on size, effort, age, and of course overexaggeration of machines. I came to the realization that it was a pretty minor factor in the weight loss game. For what its worth, during my weight loss
    1. I didn't log calories from weight lifting...it is a small amount anyway.
    2. I underestimated the calorie burn on the machines because I tried to eat the same amount every day regardless of calories burned from exercise. Often logging 1 calorie (just to keep track of the workout). I didn't eat back the calories earned from cardio.

Many people do log calories burned of course, it comes down to what you are comfortable with. I just view exercise as living a healthy lifestyle and separate from my weight loss goals (or maintenance atm).

Log all the exercise calories that seem to be a reasonable estimate - it's not going to be that significant compared to your food logging accuracy anyway. Reasonable is fine, accurate isn't necessary or in many cases possible anyway.

Don't your treadmill and cross trainer ask for your weight when you select a program?

For your weight training just log 30 minutes under the strength training category (in the CV part of your exercise diary). That does adjust automatically for your own weight but it's not a lot of calories unfortunately!
