Thoughts on Energy gels / gummies

I'm thinking of using the energy gels / gummies for long and intense hikes where I can't stomach a meal but during the 4-5 hour assent I'm needing to fuel a bit more than I am currently.

Is there really any advantage of using these products vs just eating a family of unsuspecting gummy bears.

I've tried granola bars and I can't seem to eat them, too dry and I just can't get them down, so far a few almonds and a few gummy bears have been ok but still not enough. I'm also mostly vegan (honey is my only exception)

When I'm hiking my pack is around 15 lbs- 20 lbs the hikes are often very intense 6-8 hours not counting lunch, 15+ kms distance and gaining over 900 m in elevation.

So any suggestions for fuelling myself for this kind of activity? pre workout meal? on the trail? Lunch ?

Compare the ingredients, your body or ably won't notice the diff BTWN them and gimme bears though. What about an electrolyte pill/snack?

I'll have to look into electrolyte snack / pills I've never heard of them. taking an electrolyte pill along with some gummy bears might be good option especially if I can get them over the internet since selection of speciality products in stores in northern canada can be limited.

I use energy gels on long distance hikes and runs. I also take a bottle with electrolytes in water. I have also started to take either a sandwich or a wrap with peanut butter, honey and sliced banana as an energy hit early on in the hike. You could also pack some medjool dates.

eta - gummy bears/jelly beans/etc are also good. They're essentially the same - high energy in quick release form
