By "over cals" do you mean over maintenance or over goal?0

Water weight. Due to possibly:
- more sodium than average
- more carbs than average
- execess stress (body response to cortisol is to store water)
- flying (stress or the low humidity in the airplain cabins? not sure how that works, but it's a fact for some of us)
- sunburn (yup you'll retain water from that too)
- new or heavier exercise load (body response to higher exercise load is to store water for muscle repair)
- if you're female: ovulation or menstruation
None water weight related:
- more food in your GI-tract (ate more ergo you have more food hanging around waiting to be excreted)
That list can go on. If several factors merge, then you can easily retain 5lbs of water (my own record was 12lbs: flying, TOM, sodium and a sunburn...)
It usually flushes out within the next 3 days to 2 weeks.
One of the best pieces of advice I was given: don't compare your weight to yesterday or even the week before, compare to the month before - especially if you are female.

Did you eat 17500 calories over maintenance? No? Not fat, don't worry about it.6

More food than usual = more water retention and more material in the gut being processed. More stress = raised cortisol and more fluid retention. More carb-y food than usual = more water retention ...

The bold is your answer. you could not have possibly gained that much fat in such a short of period of time. Learn to work with the fluctuations, this will be important to your weight loss and way on into maintenance.
