Apple Watch Series 2 Question

Hello everyone!
I am considering getting an Apple Watch Series 2. I want to be able to leave my phone in the locker at the gym, but still have all of its benefits on my wrist.
The most important of these to me, is music. I need music at the gym.

Does anyone know if I will be able to leave my phone in the locker, and be able to listen to Spotify on my Apple Watch? I pay for premium and have a workout playlist on there that I love.
Does anyone know if this will work? Will the phone need to be closer to the watch, or will it work with the phone in the locker? Please help. I'd like to know before spending all that money.

Thanks!
Claire

There isn't an official Spotify app and there are third party ones that I think only let you synch playlists but they don't seem very well reviewed. Ask Spotify why they don't have one, it's pretty weird. You can synch quite a large playlist of your own direct to the AW though, if that makes any difference.

As regards the internet connection, the AW will try to connect to the phone first, and then known wifi it's been connected to before. It should work fine if your gym has wifi.

Furthering MelanieCN77's comment, Apple has a free 3 month trial for Apple Music, it works very well with the watch and you can download playlists onto the watch itself. I know a lot of people love Spotify, but Apple products tend to work well together. Good luck finding a solution! I'm with you, I dislike carrying my phone around the gym too.

Does Apple Music have the ability to type songs in and listen to them instantly, as well as build playlists, and radio stations built off of your listening choices? If so, I'd consider cancelling my Spotify account and switching.
