Hi everyone!
I am new too all of this calorie / exercise counting via apps so i hope it will make my weight loss easier.
i have at least 100 lbs to lose.
i walk a lot for my job as a tour guide (10, 000 TO 15,000 steps per day) but none of it gets my heart rate pumping, so although i am active, its not the right sort of activity.
My dr says i don't eat enough and my body is in starvation mode constantly.
i have decided, now is the time......this is my time. kids now off my hands but i have aching joints, puffed out and tired.....i am not yet 50 but feel 70.
I have invested in a fitbit watch with heart monitor.
i am going to see a dietician in 2 weeks who will take bloods and create a diet personally for my body.....then i have to exercise......i hate it! i can change my diet no problem, but actually exercising is going to be tough......i would rather sit on the sofa with a cup of tea and a book!
so what exercise do you recommend for a couch potato who already does a lot of walking?
thanks
Nikki

I'm surprised you haven't gotten any replies yet, since you mentioned starvation mode, and especially since your Dr mentioned it. You might want to search 'starvation mode' here... to find out how misinformed your Dr is on that. Hopefully, the dietician will set you up with a plan. Have you thought about swimming? It's a good way to get some exercise without being too hard on your joints.
You don't have to exercise to lose weight. You just have to be in a calorie deficit. Again, I hope the dietician will set you straight on that. You're already walking over 10,000 steps a day, and your joints hurt. You might want to hold off adding more exercise, until you've lost a bit, maybe you'll be more motivated, and things won't hurt as much.
If you haven't entered your stats here, yet, and started logging, I'd suggest you do that right away, and then you'd have something to show the dietician... where you're at now. You don't have to wait until you see the dietician, to get started.0 -
I'm also new to this site. You and I might just be twins from a different mother! I despise exercising and would rather sit on the couch with a book/binge on Netflex (and snacks . I would think that getting in 10,000 - 15,000 steps in daily, even if they don't get your heart rate pumping, should put you in pretty at a good 'endurance' level for beginning exercise.0

OMG.
I would be seeing a new doctor.
Starvation mode is myth. You would need to be of skeletal proportions to go into Starvation Mode.
You could possibly be lowering your metabolism.
Which would affect weight, hormones, fat distribution and fluid retention.
A dietitian will be helpful. Eating high protein and regular meals would possibly increase your metabolism.
Log your steps. MFP would still regard them as exercise.
And Yes-The truth is you can lose weight without exercise.
As long you remain in a Calorie Deficit.

Calorie deficit is the only thing you need. You don't need to complicate things. Your joints may feel a bit better after you lose some weight, and you may feel more motivated to exercise. I think that some people go too hard core in the beginning, and it causes them to lose motivation. It's important to remember that you can eat anything you want, just in moderation, remembering the calorie deficit. Your dietician may focus on nutrition, as well as calories, which is important, but you are more likely to be successful, in the long term, if you eat foods you enjoy.
