You lose weight be being in a calorie deficit. Yoga is great for your health but it doesn’t burn much. Still, though, your focus should be on your intake.

I have lost weight in the past with a routine that consisted of a lot of yoga. This of course was combined with a healthy diet and some other forms of exercise, not just yoga by itself ( I did yoga 4x a week at the time). As far as burning calories through activity, there are many different types of yoga, each with its own benefit. I found once comfortable, going through the sequences even faster helps get your heart rate up. Classes offered such as hot yoga really raise your body temperature and are particularly challenging. The increase in both upper and lower body strength, along with flexibility and toning, made the rest of my workouts far more productive and helped in gaining results. In the end, any form of physical exercise along with the appropriate eating can only be good for you. Yoga also has many other benefits that contribute to your health in a positive way.

This for sure. I do yoga and I did yoga when I initially lost weight, but it's something that I had to add in with everything else. However like nicph8626 said, there are different types. One quick search on YouTube will give you Yoga for weight loss and toning and those aren't as holding a pose heavy they are more continuous movement oriented. But yoga can help in so many ways other than just fitness. Good luck!

It certainly won’t hinder your loss. As far as a huge calorie burn that won’t be the best but your body will thank you and your balance will improve.

I find yoga has really helped me with affect regulation. By that I mean doing yoga regularly makes me feel good, makes me feel like I’m taking healthy steps to look after my body that has impacts off the mat. I make healthier food choices, am less likely to turn to food to soothe emotional issues and generally take better care of myself. This results in a calorie deficit well beyond the 180 calories I’d burn in a yoga class (just guessing at the calorie burn as I never add it in).

If you yoga instead of eating, it can work wonderfully.
