The candy I'm seeing is the same candy I can get anytime, year round. It's just a bit more ubiquitous, but it's nothing special. To me, it's not worth the extra calories unless it's something different and interesting. I remind myself that I can get a Hershey bar anywhere, so there's no need to eat lots of them now.19

Yes, I'm struggling. I bought a bag of it for the trick or treaters, and left it unopened. Then a houseguest suggested it should be opened. And now there aren't many of the tiny Twix left!
On the bright side, I've realized I just need to go with the candy that doesn't really interest me. My usual daily good dark chocolate is actually better than all these, so my initial reaction of "Get in mah belly!" seems to have subsided.
Like apullum said, candy is ubiquitous, so it's not special. Just need to take that to heart a bit more.7 -
If you feel must buy some, get something you don't really care for, then keep it out of sight until the kiddos come around. Get it out for a few hours. If there's any left over, put it in a bag and take it to work the next day or have someone in the family do the same.6

You don't have to buy candy. If it's meant for the kids, the kids are eating way too much candy already.13

No - I'm too busy wiring up the door bell button to the mains electricity supply to fry any trick or treaters.

So far I'm pleasantly surprised at my ability to moderate the Halloween candy. We have mini Snickers which are 42 calories and 5 carbs apiece, and I've been eating one every couple of days or so instead of my daily piece of dark chocolate. I haven't touched the Reece's cups even when my husband eats them and I can smell them. They smell soooo good! But I remind myself I don't even like them all that much. I think it's easier to resist because I do have a treat every day.
We still have a bunch of cheap stuff left from last year - we never know from year to year whether we're going to get twenty kids or two hundred, and last year it was more like twenty. I did eat all the Smarties out of it as after workout blood sugar boosters. A roll of Smarties fits nicely in my tiny little workout pants pocket!3 -
I have celiac disease. I handle this one by buying Kit Kats and Twix bars for Halloween candy. I can't eat either of those, obviously. Problem solved.13

I am, OP.
Stress + Anxiety + Halloween Candy = Loss of Control. In my case, sad but true. However, I did log everything yesterday, which is a step in the right direction.
You didn't ask for tips, so I'm just going to commiserate. We will get through this.5 -

Ha!
When I was a kid it was common for jack o'lanterns to be stolen and smashed in the street. My dad strung several of those firecrackers that emit loud BANGs when you pull on either end of the string between the jack o'lantern on our porch and the porch rail. The person who tried to grab it was quite surprised.12 -
The key for me is not to start, lol. Or if I really crave one, have one.
But honestly, I have candy in my house year long, so there's really nothing special about today. I'm just more worried about the kids leaving stuff in reach of the dog.5 -
Nooope... after the Halloween party on the weekend I'm totally over candy. I bought some for the trick-or-treaters tonight, but I'll bring any leftovers into the office first thing in the morning.3
-
Buy some other stuff for the kids. Glow Sticks, tattoos, spider rings etc. I gave out some last year, and the treaters loved them. You won't have extra candy to be tempted with, and will make it more enjoyable for the kids with food intolerances.14

I get the struggle. I only struggle with it because I'm sitting outside with a big bowl of candy and I find it hard to not help myself to it throughout trick or treating haha. I'm pretty good at staying away from it in stores, unless I have a very intense craving and in that case I'll buy a single serve candy and make sure it fits in my calorie budget. The last trick or treater to come to my house is usually a lucky one because I end up just dumping the rest of the candy into their bag so I don't have leftovers! My neighborhood is very popular for trick or treat so I usually get a ton of kids throughout the 2 hours and don't have much left at the end anyway3
-
I also struggle because I'm addicted to chocolate lol. I've dove into the fun size snickers twice in the last two days and probably will again tonight. I am in maintenance so it's not as big a deal to me, I simply work harder during workouts on weeks like this to put those extra calories to use building more muscle. But I have found that part of my personal problem is stopping. I can eat 1 little chocolate bar, but want a 2nd. If I eat the 2nd, I want a third. So what I have to make myself do is eat a couple then stop and walk away, get something to drink, and wait a while. I usually don't want them as bad if I do that. That way it's a small treat and not a huge binge of candy lol. Regardless, I wouldn't beat yourself up about it, just practice portion control and have fun.2

Nope Living the Keto life no cravings!!8

Nope...we never need to have candy in the house other than what we would normally have because we're always out with the kids trick or treating so not home to pass out candy.2
-
I'm worried about it now, but once I've had dinner, I'll be too full to want much. Maybe one or two minis...but that's it.0

Really though, buy the candy you don't like.cwolfman13 wrote: »Nope...we never need to have candy in the house other than what we would normally have because we're always out with the kids trick or treating so not home to pass out candy.
My kids get cold/bored pretty fast still (at 9. Weird kids) so only last an hour or so and we always end up having kids showing up too... it's always random though, which sucks, I can run out with one bag in 30 minutes or buy two and have way too much extra. I probably bought too much candy this year but my mom will stay home to give it away.
We could ignore the kids that come over, but the dog goes crazy anyway and we have the lights on inside, so whatever.1 -
Nope. Meh.
But Mrs Jruzer roasted pumpkin seeds with cinnamon, sugar, and cumin. THAT I'm having problems avoiding.3 -

We usually go meet up with one of my wife's friends and her little girl and go trick or treating with them...our neighborhood really isn't conducive to trick or treating as there are no sidewalks or street lights so it's really dark and some people like to speed through the neighborhood...a few years ago, my oldest and I were almost run over on halloween and that was the last time we did it in our neighborhood.
We go to the other neighborhood and walk around for an hour or so and then go back to my wife's friends house to hang out a bit and drink some wine...by the time we get home, it's usually 9 PM and everything is over with.2 -
I've got a big bag of variety Tootsie stuff for the kids, a bag of Hershey's chocolate for just in case, and big bag of Almond Joy for the healthy clean plant based etc.4
-
I don't buy or eat candy. I have been known though to buy Luna bars in the flavors of my favorite candies. The coconut ones taste like Almond Joys and I get protein WIN WIN.
My biggest candy craving is for gummie candy and that's not halloween related, and can get those any time...and typically when I buy 1 bag, it's gone in hours. 3 months without them...but I see that ending soon since they are my favorite airplane treat - and we leave for Cancun in 11 days...Moderation, right?2 -
Halloween is the only time I buy candy but it's still a problem because I just can't seem to control myself! The problem is we buy a giant Costco bag meant for both our annual Halloween party (the Saturday before Halloween) and Halloween itself. So most years there are days in between where there is an open bag of pure temptation! I (wrongly) justify it by saying it's just once a year. I think I need to just skip having candy at the party and avoid buying candy until the day before Halloween. I have no problem bringing the leftovers to work so if I truly only eat it ONE day, I could be okay with that!0

Benefits to living in an apartment on a main road. I think I only had one group of trick or treaters last year. I'm out tonight so that's my boyfriend's job.2
-
No candy in my office and I plan to avoid it tonight, too. Can't tempt me with what I can't access.0

The struggle is so real! I knew today would be an issue, so, I have increased my workouts to twice a day this week and I have also decided to do slimfast for dinner for the rest of the week. This should even me out. I made these changes so I can have a carefree splurge day! To be honest I have not eaten as much as I thought I would.

My driveway is a half mile long with out any lights on the path...a family graveyard near the entrance and literally coyotes howling behind the house every night...NOT ANY SORT OF CANDY WOULD INTICE A CHILD TO MY HOUSE... and I am ok with that!8
-
Our local trick or treat hours are crazy early to avoid darkness so I am never home anyway, so never buy anything.
I'm also super picky about chocolate which means I'm not tempted by the candy people will bring in tomorrow.1 -
Today's going surprisingly well- I bought one milky way bar (larger) so I feel satisfied, then had a healthy chicken and roasted vegetable dinner before taking my brother out trick-or-treating. We walked for nearly 1.5 hours so I had a dark chocolate mini milky way. Now I'm just drinking some water. For the next couple days, I built in a small piece of candy each day to preemptively fight back against cravings.3
