Deducting fiber from veggie carbs?

I just found out that you can deduct fiber from veggie carbs...i.e. veggie dish with 20 gr total carbs, 6 of which are from fiber, leaves you with 14 grams of carbs total...

Does MFP automatically make this calculation when you enter in your meals?

No because fiber doesn't make calories or carbs magically disappear. They still exist. Just eat the food.

Ah, is that what "net carbs" refers to? Fiber is a separate entity from carbs (unlike sugar, which is a carb), so the amount of fiber you're eating shouldn't be deducted from the carb amount.

Net carbs is total carbs minus fiber. Fiber is a carbohydrate, however, it is not digested like standard carbohydrates. In the U.S., on a label that lists total carbohydrate, fiber is included within that count. I believe this is not the case in the UK, where fiber is already pre-subtracted.

If you are counting carbohydrates, you can safely subtract out fiber from that count.
