Defeating the purpose?

I'm confused. When I excercise and I burn say 400 calories, it give me an extra 400 calories to eat that day. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of excercise?
I really don't want to follow that rule.

I didn't understand that either at first. But people on this website have been telling me that if you don't eat the calories you burn, then you end up being under your calories for the day. Its ok to be 100 or less under, but if you start getting where you are 400 under, your body will think your starving it, therefore it will use every ounce of food you put in your body, and that can actually cause you to gain weight. (this is what i have heard). See what others say though,

Just for the record Helawat stole my post.
seriously though j,
The site does all the calculations for you. No need to worry about it defeating the purpose. What you see on your My Home page is your calories already adjusted to lose weight, so any calories you add to it by exercise is still already adjusted, NOT adding those calories would increase the deficit thereby causing you to possibly fall below the safe deficit range.
We so need spell check on here, I hate having to edit my posts after I post them.0 -
I'm with Joanna. I've eaten my exercise calories and I am not disappointed with my results. If you are eating too few calories, I'm afraid that you are setting yourself up for a situation that is impossible to maintain after you reach your goal weight.0

I agree Pam!!!
I used to skip meals and eat like once a day when I was younger and yes I was skinny but it was not a pretty picture for my metabolism....you need to eat....to fuel your system....its like running a car on less than a quarter tank....its will run....but then it will sputter and stop....the losing weight from a very local diet will work at first, then you'll be not too happy when you stop and then when you finally do eat normally...even only 1200 a day...you may gain....which is not good!
so eat and exercise and you'll see the benefits hon!
hugs,
