Fitbit One

I am getting a Fitbit One for my birthday in a few weeks and I am just looking for some advice. I regularly use my Polar FT4 heart rate monitor now. Is there any point in using that in addition to the FitBit for workouts? Or will FitBit give me all of the information I need?

Fitbit should be fine for walking or running.
You will want your HRM for elliptical, cycling, dancing, ect workouts.0 -
Yep - i use both - the Polar gives me a good read for anything other than walking and getting about my daily business - having both is great! There are a few thread here with info on how to set them up when the time comes! I think you will love the FB - really addictive and great for keeping you accountable.0

I love my Fitbit One and pretty much wear it 24/7. I did invest in a HRM after hearing so many people rave about them on here. I used it to double check my Fitbit estimates ... it's always good to get a second opinion, right?
When I first got the HRM, I would put it on for almost all exercise. I'd "record an activity" on Fitbit (which gives you a snapshot of the data - steps, calories burned, etc.) for that workout. Then I would compare the two. For the most part, they are pretty close (one 5 mile jog came in at 572 calories burned on the Fitbit, 573 calories burned on the HRM).
The HRM does give you some nice feedback DURING the workout - seeing your heart rate and if you need to work harder. I do still wear it for some, but not all of my exercise. On my elliptical, after wearing it a couple of times, I find I'm pretty constant there (and I get a machine reading as well) so I don't bother putting the HRM on anymore. My stationary bike rides are the same ... I do still put on the HRM for jogs (as I'll walk/jog ... and try to keep "in the zone"), even though the Fitbit is usually very close in its calorie estimate. I think the HRM makes me work harder there. I also where it during 30DS (HRM comes in higher as it isn't all steps) ...
For me, the HRM is a bit of a pain (clipping it into the strap, putting the strap on, moistening the electrodes, putting on the watch) ... I'm a bit spoiled by the ease of the Fitbit0
