Do those gadgets to measure BMI work?

Are they worth it? I was kind of interested in getting one. The fat caliper thing looks kind of iffy. There's one that you hold, like handlebars. Looks good, a little pricey, but might be iffy too.

The caliper method is more accurate than a BIA handheld device or body fat scale. You need a trained person to do the caliper measures. The best thing is hydrostatic dunk tank weighing, bod pod, or dexa scan.1

Bmi is based on height and weight.
Do you mean body fat % or bmr?2 -

I assume she means BF when I responded. There is no caliper or handheld device to measure bmi per se.0 -
I thought the caliper measurement wS used in calculating bmi another way. Ive done the height and weight calculation for bmi.0

For BIA as stated above, 4 point handheld or scale devices aren't all that accurate.
The commercial 6 and 8 point BIA devices are very nearly as accurate as BOD Pod or DEXA. Although they run 1500-3000 so not viable for home use.1 -

BMI (Body mass index) is height and weight. That's it. BF% is your body fat and that's what the calipers are used for.1
