Intermittent Fasting/Heartburn Question

Since starting Keto a month ago and after eliminating sugars and carbs, I had no signs of heart burn. I started IF 16:8 about a week ago and I love it, because it helps me stay at my calorie goal and still feel like I am not depriving myself. However, since I started IF I get extremely bad heartburn when I hit about 13-16 into the fast. As soon as I eat, it goes away. Any advice on this?

    Heartburn

Paradoxically, although the body produces less stomach acid while fasting, heartburn is a commonly-reported complaint during short fasts and the early stages of longer fasts. Ordinarily the body would produce extra digestive juices when you eat, but it can be misled by your brain. Thinking about food or smelling it can give your body the erroneous impression that a meal is on the way, causing it to generate acidity. It is safe to take an over-the-counter antacid to counter this. If you routinely take a more powerful acid blocker, consult your physician for advice on whether to use it while fasting.
  • Thank you for the information. I had started to wonder if that was my body's way of telling me it was hungry. Because since I have been doing keto, my cravings have disappeared. Guess I am just trying to learn to listen to my body.
