If you are insulin resistant or find carbs to be a trigger food, low carb can help. Keto is a little drastic and highly restrictive. One of the keys to long term health is finding a way to eat that you can do for long term. For most, eating the foods we already eat and like, just in smaller amounts, is what works long term.

It's worth trying and see how your do. You can always decrease the carbs to keto. But it is a lot more sustainable IMHO to eat between 100 and 150 gr of carbs that 50 or less.

You have gained weight in this case by either

    a) holding more water due to higher carb intake, which is inevitable, but not fat if you were maintaining the same calorie intake.

b.) eating too many calories. The carbs aren't to blame for your weight gain.

You don't need to do keto to lose weight, you just need to be in a calorie deficit.

l actually used to barely eat so I do think it deff was eating too many calories for few years while I was in a relationship. l heard even when you lose weight when you cut carbs like for some ppl its mostly water weight right? isn't it faster to lose weight when youre on ketosis though? also im just trying to figure out like macros to cut more weight. l heard also higher fiber helps. also tnx! im finding it hard to stay under my calories sometimes. especially having school etc. so sometimes I just try not to eat until night time.

besides the initial loss of water weight, eating at a deficit in keto isn't going to make you lose fat faster than eating higher carb in deficit.

calories are what matter for weight loss - worry about those most. eat at least the minimum recommendations for protein and fat, then let your macros fall where they naturally go. work out what makes you feel most satisfied and able to stick to your calorie goal.

I personally like protein and fibre for fullness (along with lots of volume, so loads of lower calorie vegies). I also eat most of my calories later in the day as I feel most hungry at night. that's what works for me!

You don't lose fat any faster in ketosis. As has been pointed out, you initially lose some water but keto and low carb diets have not proven metabolic advantage for fat loss. Your macros don't really contribute to your weight loss. Calorie deficit is the thing that does that. If you have fitness goals, eg. weight training, then managing your macros become more important. But, you macro mix can't speed up more fat loss. That is all about calories.

It will not, as you decrease carbs, you will need to increase sodium, potassium and magnesium (especially if you are keto). Cutting carbs decreases glycogen and water storage which effects electrolytes. Its one reason why you can get keto flu and cramping on low carb.

I guess it basically will just help water weight and that can come back easily right. l notice when I have had higher protein that I stick to eating healthier more but its so hard to eat so much while in university and have classes. idk how to get in so much protein etc. you know I tried to have just salads for one day and I had like a headache last week. I think im going to try to add some low calorie veggies with maybe some protein and take that to school and stuff. how much fibre do you usually have? im trying to start aiming for 25 - 30 grams not sure if that's enough though. protein is deff where im lacking though. thanks a lot though for the advice.
