Sugar

Ok, so I need to start watching my sugar levels. I added the "sugar" collumn to my diary, and it gave me a daily total of 30, which I have already exceeded by 7 and I'm not even halfway done with my calories. 2 plums were 12 grams of sugar! Is 30 grams a realistic goal? How does MFP gauge how much a person should have?
Sincerely,

MFP has me at level of 24 grams! Totally unrealistic to me. I drink shakeology in the morning with a cup of almond milk and it takes it up quite high. Later if I add a whey protein shake with a cup of almond milk after working out, I am over my limit with just two otherwise healthy items.

I take the sugar level with a grain of salt (which I don't calculate  )

I am not sure how they choose the number. That is the one measurement I am over every day! I am trying to stay away from refined sugar, but I love my fruits, and that adds up quickly. I just resign myself to the fact that I will never hit that number, and know that I have reduced my sugars by a ton already by cutting out pop and over half the sugar I used to put in tea and coffee.

I try to stick to unprocessed sugars, so I am not bothered by sugars in fruits, and I try to use honey, agave, etc. in lieu of white sugar or artificial sweeteners (which I have beef with).

I take my sugar intake with a grain of salt (or sugar!) because there are different types of sugar. The sugars from fruits and vegetables, like the plums you ate today, are unprocessed and healthy sugars. If you're eating fruits and veggies, like you should be, it's almost impossible to stay within that limit.

40g of sugar is the non -diabetic amount a person should not exceed in a day. If you are diabetic I suggest eating a lot less. Any simple carb turns to sugar quickly. So sugar, which includes itself, fruits (because they are fructose) and things like milk they may have it added as well will hurt ya in that categorie. I would suggest not to eat more than a banana and an apple a day (which may be right around 44g depending on the sizes of both fruits. I suggest splenda to most people if you drink coffee etc.
