I'm back on MFP this year in serious mode. I left myself go over the last year due to trauma from abusive people coming into my life again. I went from 252 soaring to 297.
I've considered bariatric surgery and getting the gastric sleeve but when I brought my teenaged daughter to the orientation on it she really wised up about being my enabler.
She told me I was doing so well before and we have to snap out of gping to fast food 3-4 times a week like the abusive person forced us to do.
Been doing great using The Plan by Lyn Grnet Recitas and have gone down a few pounds this week already. This plan will let my body heal itself by reducing inflammatory responses to bad foods for me which cause weight gain. The first 30 days I should lose about 10% of my weight, BMI go down and lose 1/2 a pound a day.
I was asked by my daughter to do this without the gastric sleeve surgery. I need all the friends and support I can get! It's just the 2 of us in the house and WINTER IS COMING. :)

Take your time and do it the right way. Nothing wrong with surgery, but until you have given it EVERYTHING you've got, it should not be considered. There are side effects that can be difficult to navigate. We believe in you. There are 1000's of people on here who started where you are and successfully got their health back. I am so proud of you and I don't even know you. Thanks for being an inspiration to me.

Your daughter sounds like a wise person! I'm sorry you've had to deal with abuse and wish you well as you recover from your trauma.

The maximum recommended weight loss is 1% of your body weight per week unless you are extremely obese and under a doctor's supervision. Faster loss and you risk losing lean muscle mass, hair loss, and damage to your metabolism. Give yourself time to lose the weight - you didn't gain it overnight and you are not on a deadline. In order to successfully lose weight and keep it off you will need to make changes for the rest of your life, or the weight will come right back when you go back to the behaviors that caused you to gain weight in the first place, so it's important to start by making changes you can keep doing for the rest of your life, not "dieting." Unfortunately Lyn Genet Recitas's claims that weight gain is due to food sensitivities are pure woo. You are not suffering from inflammatory responses due to bad foods unless you have had a doctor diagnose you, and you do not need to detox. Just eat fewer calories, by whatever means makes that easiest for you.

I was once where you are now! I understand your impatience and the feeling that if you don't do this fast, you will lose momentum and quit. But that doesn't have to happen. You can do this slowly and steadily and the right way, by counting calories, eating healthy foods you enjoy, and making time to move every day. I'm down 106 lbs since this time last year.

Best of luck on your journey!

Any program that promises "1/2 lb loss per day" is likely a scam/shill. From The Plan's website, "The secret to losing weight is chemistry not calories. " This is objectively not true. I dropped down from 215 lbs to 142.8 lbs just by counting calories. I still drank wine and ate cauliflower (which is off of The Plan), chocolate, cheese... IF it fit into my calories.

Set yourself more reasonable goals and work on habits (no fast food is a great one) not quick-fixes (like anything that promises more than 2 lbs loss per week).
