Counting olive oil in boiling water?

I was wondering: if I'm boiling vegetables and I add a little olive oil, should I count the oil? How much oil am I eating if I drain out the water/oil?

I'm wondering why you're adding oil to water to boil vegetables?

The oil keeps the pot from boiling over. Cook’s trick.

That's new to me, I just prop a metal spoon in the pan.

Just goes to show one never stops learning, and you can teach old dogs new tricks.

    Cheers, h.

I'd log half of it as some will stay with the vegetables and oil is calorie dense. Better to overestimate oil used than underestimate if you are losing weight.

I've never heard of this. Use a bigger pot or less water and it won't boil over.

Turn the temperature down on the stove also works once it starts boiling, i go from max to 6 on the stove and it keeps boiling just fine.

    Yes, this too.

And saves gas/electricity, oil, and the money you'd spend on them :)

I have literally never had a problem with an overboiling vegetable pot. Like ever. Maybe its because im only one person but i eat 3-5 servings at a time. Pots pretty full. Still never had it boil over. Again possibly because i dont like mushy vegetables so i dont cook them much longer thn it takes to dethaw them lol.

Plus i guess iv taken to using my wok frying pan to cook them. Just alot quicker lol

Or add salt once it starts boiling!
    Minus oil calories
    Plus flavor
Equals increased boiling point of water so it doesn't boil over as quickly

Bonus: prop the lid up to allow some steam out

If you steam your vegetables you use far less water, no fear of boiling over. ;-)

There is not a need to add oil to your boiling water. If you add it then just log it. You won't be consuming all of it.
Turn the heat down a bit and it won't boil over without adding anything to the pot.

yeah no im sorry the more i think about it the stupider it sounds. Its truely unnecessary, Wont effect the taste, Takes far to much thought, And your trying to lose weight i imagine. So why are you adding unnecessary oil that takes up money and unknown calories and so much thought when you can literally just turn the stove down or get a bigger pot?

As has been said, no need for oil. I have never had veggies boil over and never use oil in water. No need to salt water either...though lots of people thinks it's needed

Like many others above, I suggest don't add oil to cooking water. Lots of folks used to add it to pasta water but not so much anymore for many good reasons. I heartily approve of drizzling your favorite extra virgin olive oil over vegetables after cooking though.

I add a drop or two to pasta water - stops pasta all sticking together - or so I believe.

But I dont log it - amount too tiny to bother and i am not a super exact logger anyway.

Never add oil to the water when you're cooking spaghetti. The sauce won't stick to the pasta.

As for adding it when cooking veggies, well, I just turn down the heat. Generally the only veggie I boil is potatoes.
