Breaking my nighttime eating habit

I'm 5'6 and 165. When I was pregnant (8 years ago), I got into a terrible habit of eating snacks at night--nothing too terrible (toast, popcorn, frozen yogurt, etc.)--but I've never been able to shake the habit or the weight. Before my daughter, I weighed 130-140. By the end of the day, I feel like I "deserve" some sort of food treat. I'll do fine with eating all day, but then after 8 pm, I suddenly no longer really care and dig into things. If I could break this habit, I'd lose 300-400 calories a day. It seems so simple and yet. . . . .Any tips/strategies?

I save most my days calories for night time because i know how i am. Sometimes to make a diet work for you its beter to work in what you like vs trying to change it

Pre-log your meals and work it into your calorie goal. That's what I do to accommodate ~two 150-200 calorie snacks a day.

Don't eat 300-400 calories in the day time and eat them at night. I save a huge chunk of my calories to eat in the evening and have a late night snack. I look forward to my late night snack very much!!!

Yeah as iv already said no need to break that habit, I find life so much more enjoyable knowing i still have my calories left for late vs iv used them all up now i must deprive myself and go to bed hungry.

Excuse my language but *kitten* that.

I know some people have just picked a time that the kitchen closes and it's worked for them, but I'm too stubborn for that! I save 150-250 cals per day for a 10 pm snack. If I get peckish after that, brushing my teeth usually works to signify the end of the eating day for me. On days I don't manage to save the calories, I'll have one or two mini chocolates, usually Dove dark chocolate Promises, with my tea. They are only 40 cals each, so not much damage and very satisfying, for me at least.
