You know, it reminds me of an event I went to last year... someone brought over some homemade spritz cookies. They looked gorgeous and there was a big variety... and they tasted like cardboard.
Meanwhile my not-so-great looking cookies were delicious and gone in no time (just basic sugar and almond crescent cookies).
I'm leaning towards those pecan balls for a change though. Or maybe some cranberry pistachio biscotti (I bought a biscotti pan so maybe they will actually look relatively even for once). It doesn't help that I don't care for anise/peppermint/ginger/spiced flavors at that time of the year. Or maybe shortbread. Anyone got a good shortbread cookie recipe?
They must have used a really awful recipe. You can’t skip and real almond and vanilla extracts, and use real butter. Also, some people doesn’t store cookies properly before giving them out, tho spritzers hood up well to longer storage.0 -
I was going to make chocolate chip cookies for my Air Force son over the weekend but forgot to buy chocolate chips. No problem; I modified the recipe on the fly and made him chocolate molasses cookies. (Added 1/2 cup cocoa powder and 1/4 cup molasses to the written recipe. No other changes except for leaving out the chips.)
First time I'd done it; these might become a staple.0 -

My favorite for cookie exchanges are Holy Crap These Are Amazing Cookies (peanut butter cornflake cookies) because most people haven't had them but end up loving them. Plus there's a personal story behind them for me.
But my favorite to make/eat are Buckeyes.
I've heard some people get bitter when people bring no-bakes to cookie exchanges1 -

I found a recipe on Pinterest for Hot Chocolate Cookies a while ago, and my friends and family love them! The texture comes out a bit like a cake brownie in my opinion. https://cookiesandcups.com/hot-chocolate-cookies/
Someone else suggested peanut butter blossoms. Those are delicious and fairly easy to make. My other favorite recipes are more time-intensive. Cut out sugar cookies take time, but they are worth it once or twice a year. My family also has a great recipe for pumpkin bread from scratch.1 -
I love me some preacher cookies!0

I have a cookbook with a recipe for what is basically orange shortbread bars with one end dipped in dark chocolate. They're like the cookie version of those whack-on-the-counter chocolate orange balls. Last year I made simple cinnamon oatmeal cookies and for some reason everyone thought those were the best cookies I had ever made, lol! For a twist on the classic chocolate chip, I add cinnamon, which adds a bit of holiday flair. Or I use banana instead of egg for a banana-chocolate flavor (plus the bonus of being able to eat all the cookie dough you want!)0

Peanut Butter Blossoms. These things I need to stay far away from!1 -

These were a hit last year and I iced and decorated some of them as well. First time I made them, basic, easy as tasty.0 -
Well I am the real life cookie monster so I love them ALL!!!
But I do have a slight bias towards peanut butter chocolate no-bakes, macaroons, and Italian wedding cookies. Oh and molasses cookies are a fav too!0 -
My grandma's sour milk cutout cookies with powdered sugar frosting!0

Oh yes! I’ve made them a few times but they are soooooo addicting!0

Icebox cookies (butterscotch cookies where the dough is frozen before baking)0

not a cookie but I can eat my weight in peanut butter balls and divinity. I can pass on the cookies.1

Not so much as a holiday cookie - but my favorite are alfajores with dulce de leche and coconut. So tasty!
There's a Peruvian sandwich shop near my house, and the owner's mom makes them. They're awesome.
Here's an Argentinian recipe:

My all-time personal favorite is the cuccidatti, a Sicilian fig cookie -- but it's a LOT of work. Here's a recipe that's very close to what my Sicilian relatives made for the holidays (I've used a white chocolate icing on them in the past, which works well but the "classic" icing is great, too):

Anise cookies. With so much anise that your tongue is numb lol.1

If you like peanut butter balls, you might like these "non-cookies". We always had them at Christmas, but I think grandma put nuts in them too:

The oatmeal makes them nutritious and destroys most of the calories from the other ingredients.5 -
Her recipe is very similar to this one posted above without the nutmeg.

You can sour the milk with white vinegar. I’m sure you can google the quantity.
The frosting was just powdered sugary and water to desired consistency.
It would be good with the nutmeg too, I’m not saying don’t use it, just that our family recipe doesn’t have it
Enjoy!0 -

You're sweet...thanks so much! I'm a sucker for soft, cutout cookies with frosting (buttercream frosting just takes it over the top for me)

This is the recipe I have been playing around with: https://www.mycolombianrecipes.com/alfajores I subbed butter for unrefined coconut oil (yum - it has a coconut flavor!) and found that it was too much fat for the cookie. I reduced the oil to 2/3 a cup and the texture of the cookie is almost right.\
The fig filling in the cuccidatti sounds heavenly!0 -
My late Mother used to make Ginger Snaps, and they were a go to for me as a kid. But my favorite is peanut butter chocolate chip...........either or and you are my friend!0

If oatmeal destroyed calories, I would be in luck. Sorry, no such thing!!1 -
