What should I eat before/after Kickboxing?

Hi all,

I train 3x times a week, at 6pm after work. My work is in an office, so I'm pretty much sitting the whole day.

I always feel tired during the warm up, and I would appreciate suggestions on what to eat to feel energized before my training sessions. I tried a banana with a handful of chopped walnuts but it doesn't really work.

Any suggestions on what to eat before kickboxing? I want to avoid energy booster supplements.

Also, what should I have after my training to avoid muscle loss? I also crave for crap food.

Cup of coffee before hand, your evening meal afterwards?

Orange juice or banana usually work for me before I run. Normal meal afterwards.
  • I Kickbox, I usually go empty stomach and a black coffee. If needed, 0 calorie BCAA's.

A good, strong coffee beforehand and your evening meal or a balanced snack afterwards, maybe peanut butter and a banana or some hard boiled eggs and a piece of fruit.

My suggestion is totally not what you are looking for- you said you didn't want to do supplements, but I do and so far it's been the perfect mix for having energy without feeling bloated or gassy during the workout. 30 minutes before I box I have a Clif Shot Energy Gel and some water on an otherwise empty stomach. I feel weighted down if I eat much more. I drink water by with some sort of electrolyte powder mixed in during the workout. This helps me recover quickly if I get dizzy from an intense round. I have protein powder, creatine, and some carb immediately after. If the timing works, I'll eat a whole meal after, and if not, I'll just add a banana or something with the protein drink. Although I usually box first thing in the morning, so my needs are a bit different from you.

Before: some protein and complex carbs a couple hours before working out. Maybe a black coffee as well.
After: the heart of your enemies :)
