Needing some support

Hello!
I've struggled with my weight since coming out of high school. I gained about 50lbs, lost it quickly, and then after my first child 5 years ago, I gained it all back. I've had two more children and this past year have finally managed to lose more than 30lbs. I stress and binge eat and have been up and down on my weight loss this last year. I stopped logging food last month and gained 10lbs. I've been busy trying to paint my house and downsize for moving soon and so I have stopped going for walks and exercising in hopes I would be clearing time for working on things at home and still haven't gotten too far with the house stuff. I feel like I won't have much time for exercise until after I'm settled in a new house but I feel like if I could at least get my eating habits under control again I would start loosing weight (diet only was working very well- about 1200calories/day) There are days I will order cookies to my house and eat about 2000 calories in cookies and milk. I have a real sweets problem. I've been eating a lot of fast food too or stopping and getting ice cream at DQ or Culver's. Most of the time I can control what I buy for sweets at the grocery store but lately I've been just giving in to most of my wants for sweets. I'm hoping I can find some new friends on here that would help keep me accountable for staying within my calorie limit and stop gaining more weight by stuffing myself with sweets. I'm 5'6 and at 162lbs right now and would like to be at least in the lower 140s or better.

    I would suggest you forget the idea that others should or could stop your from overeating. You make that decision yourself. You can decide to not overeat, too. But it's smart to not rely solely on willpower. Whenever you think that you can't control yourself out shopping, think again. Compare how hard it is to control yourself at the store, with how hard it is at home. At the store, you are making one decision, and you are tempted for five minutes. At home, you will be tempted constantly, and you'll have to make decision after decision, first a lot of "no"s, then a grudging "yes". Of course this won't work if your only alternative is "healthy", boring food. Buy, eat and cook nutritious food you like.
  • I would love to be a motivation buddy. I am kinda in the same boat...being busy and trying to fit in exercise with kids, work, hubby, life...you know. It's just busy!!
    I have done very well in the past and felt great. Now (in the past year) I eat what and when I want and I am not healthy. Looking to change all that and get back to feeling great.
    I recently turned 40 which is not bad, but I do feel like if I don't gain control soon it will only get harder and harder. I am 5'3 and around 145. Haven't gotten on the scale in a long time...scared to!
    I am looking for someone to stay focused with me, be supportive, work together with skills on dealing with temptations, choices etc.

    Many of us are here because we, too, have that struggle. I've tried a number of times to lose the weight with varying degrees of success, but it usually comes back. I've shifted my mentality to that of a lifestyle change, not a diet, and so far this seems to be working for me. Tracking what I eat, how much I exercise and working with a virtual support group here on MFP has made a lot of difference for me. I'm down 66 pounds so far this year and more than halfway to my goal of losing 110 pounds total.

    I will send you a friend request and we can try to motivate each other for shared success.
