Hey all! So my daily calories to lose weight as MFP told me is 1260. I eat my allotted calories but then when I workout I add what I burned. My fitness pal then tells me I have additional calories. Does that mean I can eat more? I have tried for a year to lose more weight and the scale just won’t budge, even when I eat healthy.

So my question is essentially if I eat 1,000 calories and have 260 left and then workout and burn 500. My fitness pal will then tell me I have 760 calories available, should I eat more or no?

They wouldn't get added if you weren't supposed to eat them.

MFP isn't trying to sabotage your weight loss - that would be a crazy business plan - they're added so you can eat them.

But: It pays to be a little conservative and leave a few on the table. (If you want to lose weight. You can be a bit less careful on maintenance.)

Yes, eat them. Or if you're not sure of the accuracy of your burn (What are you doing to burn 500?) Then eat back a percentage.

If your scale isn't budging and you haven't been eating back your calories you probably have inaccuracies in logging as well. Make sure you are weighing everything with a scale and accounting for liquids as well. With such a low caloric goal it is very important that your logging is accurate as possible.

Indeed. This is the most important question. 500 calories in a session is a lot.

I would eat what you need for fuel but don't just eat to gain calories. I was running a lot and working out so I needed the added calories. I just aim for a slight deficit and kept an eye on the scale to see if I had the right number. When I went real low on purpose I got physically sick and had to pause my workouts.
