If showers make you throw up I would suggest going to a doctor.

Thank you for the replies, I've heard from friends and family members that hot showers shouldn't do this to me, but I seem to forget the problem any time I visit a doctor as it mostly happens when I'm changing my diet.

For those asking about the fact that 1200 is a reasonable amount, I think it has a lot to do with the fact that A) the water is... sort of burn your skin off scorching. I'm red. I know it's a problem but I'm not dead yet. and B) I think it's also simply because even though that is a reasonable, healthy amount, my body is used to receiving significantly more. I've never maintained that amount for more than a month or so, so it might just be the sudden change more than the actual amount. That is also what I believe makes me feel weak at work, whereas when I've been on the diet for a long time, I feel fine even if I didn't eat as much as I planned to. Most of this was a product of the fact that it is my third day with a rather extreme drop in calorie intake.

All though I don't always throw up when this happens, I do almost always feel lightheaded to the point where I nearly pass out/have to sit down on the bathroom floor for fifteen minutes or more before I can walk again without feeling like I'll pass out. Sometimes it happens when I'm eating 2000+, but the simple fact of the matter is that it's been over a year since I've tried MFP, and it feels like it's been about a year since I've thrown up after a hot shower. Occasionally I also throw up, would be a more accurate way to put this than 'it makes me throw up every time.' Sorry I wasn't more clear.

At any rate, the problem is currently solved, and I continue to appreciate the further insight. But judging by the amount of distaste in some of the comments for the nature of this thread, maybe we could stop bumping the puke thread?

My food diary is also public now... and tbh, looking at it... I've been undereating a bit more than I'd planned, but still I don't think it's to an actually unhealthy amount.

Honey, why, WHY...are you continuing to take showers that scorch your skin and "almost always" make you feel lightheaded to the pint where you "almost pass out"?

What if you did pass out? On tile?

What's compelling you to do this? I don't understand. And I don't care that this question doesn't specifically address weight, calories, or throwing up. I feel like this is just so odd. I really just do not understand it. What's the story?

I apologize, I didn't mean "almost always" as in even under normal circumstances, but when I change my diet drastically and take an extremely hot shower, I almost always do. It's not fun, and I hate it, and I wouldn't have done it had it not been so long since it happened, and had I not forgotten that I made the connection between the diet change and the hot showers, as it seems to happen most prominently or even exclusively when the two coalesce. I thought I'd suggested that it was unexpected in the original post, but I guess I haven't been clear enough.

As far hot showers that redden my skin and don't make me sick, which I can usually have with no problems when I'm eating whatever I want (which tends to be a lot) those I just love.

This will be my last reply to this post. Again, the problem is solved, and no one needs to read about my puke anymore. Is there a way to get an admin to close this?

Maybe work on not 'forgetting' about things that are possibly damaging to your health...?

I would definitely check with your Doctor OP, It doesn't sound right.

Tiredness wise with your new job you could carry dried fruit. 30g isn't bad calorie wise but is great quick energy boost.

If it was me, I'd say "screw it" and have something comforting- but healthy...like chicken soup or spaghettio's or something. Don't let yourself feel fatigued for the next day. Just do this for today, back on the wagon tomorrow.

You know, I'm guessing someone has probably already said this somewhere in this thread but I'm going to say it myself as well.

If your diet is such that small variations in your daily routine cause you to literally vomit then I think the question isn't "what do I do when I vomit?" the question is "what can I change in my diet so I'm not constantly on the verge of vomitting?".

Sounds to me like you are being far to hard on your body with whatever routine you are attempting to establish and you'd benefit from backing off yourself a bit, either by eating more or exercising less or getting adequate sleep. Vomiting is a sign from your body that something is wrong...you should listen to it.

I promise I am not being snippy in saying this (and there probably is a way to close a thread here), but...when you post on a public forum to thousands of people, your words are out there, hon. They're out there forever, now.

You can't really control a public thing that technically, you yourself don't own, to your preferences in shutting people down (or shutting them up! :) ) barring TOS violations, usually...because you've put it out there of your own volition, and it is now a discussion, and that discussion may have valuable information and good points...whether you like those points or not.

There are some good points in this thread, IMO. But if you want to close the thread, contact an admin and ask. And my advice (just my $.02) would be that next time, if you don't want people to answer from their own POV or have a full conversation that's not 100% under your personal scrutiny and control, then a public internet forum with thousands of users is probably not the place you want to do it.

I have to guess that you must have already known, before posting, that pretty much your entire question was going to elicit a "what?" response...from wanting scalded skin to the vomiting reaction to describing the vomit. I mean...you can't be surprised that we all had more questions than answers (for the most part).

I hope, anyway, that at least some of the answers gave you what you wanted.

I do not know about others, but when I was younger, I would have scorching hot baths so I would sweat a lot and weigh less. I was in the grips of Anorexia at the time, however, and obviously realise now what a stupid thing it was to do. I can tolerate neither too hot nor too cold when it comes to baths and showers these days.

Generally a person can absorb anywhere from 33%-75% of calories before vomiting, it's why bulimics generally aren't underweight.
