Need Advice Please!!

hi everyone!

Im sure most of you have read over and over again about the eternal question... how many calories should i consume to lose weight. (i know i have) but it still seems tricky for me. In many places i've read that 1200 for a women is the bare minimum and in most cases should be higher in order to lose weight. I've filled out many personalized profiles in different website to see what repeats itself the most. I used to consume about 1200-1300 daily and sometimes would be short on calories by half of the day and go hungry which I know is bad because then the whole "starvation mode" kicks in. What I have found is that I should be consuming around 1600-1700 in order to lose weight but Im really scared that if I up my calorie intake the weight I have lost recently will go back up and which means i'll have to work on losing it all over again + the 22lbs i need to reach my goal weight. I just wanted to know if anyone has any advice on what has worked for you.

I wanted to add that I have been making changes lately by eating 5-6 times a day, This week I am in a vegetarian challenge which has been a pretty cool experience. I am eating every 2-3 hours so Im not usually that hungry. I'll snack on a fruit, oatmeal, homemade hummus and whole wheat crackers. And my meals consist of a sugar free high protein shake (which I love!) and different kinds of salads.

Just so you can have an idea about me:
I am 25
5'3''
CW: 153.6
mod. active
GW: 130-135 (hopefully by Dec/13)
I would really appreciate any insight you may have my little dilemma. Thanks!!

  • Why not increase say to 1400 and see if you put weight on. If you don't put on weight then up to 1450. Rinse. Repeat.

MFP seems to be filled with "All or nothing" mind sets.

Just ramp up gradually to a level where you're not putting on weight but feeling satisfied.

I agree with itsscottwilde. Slowly add on calories and see what works best for you. Also are you only EATING 1200 a day or is that your net?I keep my net at 1200. I'm actually eating 1500 to 1700 calories a day. That seems to be working pretty well for me. Good luck reaching your goal!
