As much as I love pistachios, my urologist said they can cause kidney stones. So, I’ve had to give up eating them. He said most nuts, including peanut butter, can cause them. Bummed!

So now I have to look for other foods for the poly and mono fats and potassium.

He did tell you to avoid other high oxalate foods, too, right? Just checking as you didn't mention. If he didn't, this is a pretty good list of foods by oxalate level: http://www.wakehealth.edu/Urology/Kidney-Stones/Oxalate-Content-of-Foods.htm

You might want to check out this little blurb on studies on what gut bacteria may be able to 'eat' oxalates, so that higher oxalate foods don't have such an impact. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20602988

Also this may be of interest - the company that makes a probiotic specifically with oxalobacter formigens - the bacteria that primarily eats oxalates, mainly for the purposes of your particular problem. It would need a prescription, I believe, but might be worth talking about with your doctor in the future, although right now they are still doing one of the last studies, expected to end in 2019, so it'll be a couple years. So most docs aren't even aware of this.
