Confused by numbers

I'm confused by numbers and think I am psyching myself out by looking at the scale. I started a program about a month ago, fluctuating between 1200-1500 calories a day and working out (Muay Thai (kickboxing) classes 5 days a week plus a personal trainer session for 45min 1 day.
The first 2 weeks I dropped 8lbs and 7lbs last week I dropped 2lbs. This week I gained 2lbs. Inches wise I have lost 3 inches off my waist and I can see a drastic difference in muscle cuts in my arms and legs, but the 2lb increase is frustrating me.

Muscle is more dense than fat, so if you are gaining muscle mass, you will lose inches but gain on the scale. That is why the scale should not be the end all, be all determination of your success. I have lost only 11 pounds but I have gained a lot of muscle mass and have lots several inches all over and dropped two dress sizes. When I was losing and not working out, I had to lose 30 pounds before I dropped a dress size. Also, when you work out, your muscles will hold on to fluids so make sure you are drinking more water when you are working out. Good luck, trust the process, it will happen!0
