Looking for a reasonable weight loss coach for myself and my daughter. We are in Central Pennsylvania. I need to lose 75 pounds, she might want to lose about 25 or so. I tell her the primary thing is to be healthy, over how small she can be. We need meal coaching and exercise planning. Maybe we can be buddies and push each other. I've never been good with picking right meals, and staying on an exercise regimen is not the easiest thing for me. Don't know any dieticians. I'm over 40, I need to get straight soon, before it becomes too late.

I would suggest starting by filling out your MFP profile with a goal to lose 1.5-2 lbs a week for now. If your daughter is an adult, .5-1lb per week would be good. Start with the higher number and move to the smaller if you're overly hungry or find the bigger loss uncomfortable.
Then read through posts that are in the post that's pinned at the top of this forum. There's a lot of great info in those. And, of course, ask questions here.
Best of luck to you!4 -
all you need to lose weight is to eat less. You dont need to do a complete overhaul of your diet and you really shouldnt, Thats why most people fail. Baby steps. Eat less, Slowly and gradually make better food choices, Add some walking slowly get more active and make beter food choices next thing you know your fit healthy and happy and you did it in a way you can sustain forever and didnt need anyone to tell you what to do (im stubborn when people tell me what to do so thats a bonus for me lol)
seriously, your overthinking it3 -
@PopStevenson This can help you get started if you want.
Do buy a kitchen food scale --- about 25 dollars at Walmart or Target or other places.

Weigh your food and log it into the diary. Stay at (or a little under) the calorie goal you and My Fitness Pal set for you.
Some people do well logging their food the day before so they can decide to make adjustments.
All your regular food that you have been eating can fit into your plane. Eat less than you were eating.
You can even eat fried food as long as it is in small portions and not everyday. Same with alcohol - smaller amounts and less often than you used to have.
The easiest exercise regime in the beginning for some is to start walking right in your neighborhood. Or drive someplace else to walk where the path might be safer. Or get a bike or join a gym if you want.
You could make an account on Pinterest to see pictures of what others do for their meal planning:

It might feel like a lot in the beginning. The only really really important thing is to weigh and log your food.
Good luck.1 -
How old is your daughter?2

Good for you! Maybe your doctor can recommend a nutritionist?0

This is great! Is your daughter an adult or a kid? (I would offer different advice for the different ages)
But good for you for getting serious about your health and your daughter's!1 -
Also, I think your framing for yoru daughter is great - that's what I tell my kids. We eat foods that nourish us so that we can be healthy and strong!
Feel free to add me (though I don't know nearly as much as alot of folks around here!)0 -

Weight loss is about having a calorie deficit. You just have to figure out how much each of you needs for your age, height weight, gender and activity level. Put your stats into MFP and get a calorie goal. If your daughter is under 18 years you will have to use something else and should probably consult her doctor.
You don't have to follow a special diet or need coaching just adjust the amount of calories you consume through food or drinks, the amount of calories you burn through activity or a combination of both. Start with small changes you can sustain.
You should start with just logging what you normally eat and sticking to your calorie goal. You can alter your diet in small steps like getting more protein or having more vegetables on your plate.
If you are not used to exercise start slowly and gradually increase. Walking is easy and low cost way to get started moving more.
