Hey all, so the other day something i been curious about is the differen't heart rate zone and was wondering which one is more accurate between my fitbit compare to exercise machine i use when i go to the gym. on my fitbit defualt settings im currently using at the moment, its telling me the fat burn zone is between (50%-70%) = 86-119 and for cardio zone its (70%-85%) = 120-145. But on the exercise machine at the gym its telling me that fat burn zone is actually between 119-132 and for cardio its between 152-161. so is the fitbit default settings zones outdated and I should change it?
If anyone knows a good site that has a real accurate up to date HRZ please guide me to it and if it helps I'm 31 so my MHR 189 if I did the math right. any help is much appreciated thanks.

The last time I used one, Fitbit used a simplified three zone system, like training wheels on a bike. Most people use fine zones, including your gym's machines, which is why they don't line up. If you don't know your actual maximum heart rate or lactate threshold, they're all just arbitrary numbers anyway.

220 minus age is not an accurate predictor of maximum heart rate for many, if not most, people. You will burn calories no matter the pace. When the machine says fat burning zone, it really doesn't matter for people who are not training for long races.

Except 220 minus your age could well be miles away from what your true max HR is.
My age related estimate was only about 10bpm out from my true max but my brother could well be 40bpm out as he has an extraordinary high exercise HR.

You can try self administered max HR tests to get closer but a ramp test in a sports science lab gave quite a different result for me. You push harder when you have an audience!

PS - only attempt a max HR test if healthy and accustomed to hard exercise.
I gave myself exercise induced asthma and felt like I had been hit by a truck for three days afterwards.

PPS - what are you actually intending using HR zone training for? If it's for the so called fat burning zone then don't waste your time as it's an irrelevance for fat loss. It does have some use for structured cardio programs though.
