I know you did. But I didn't think it was funny because being a blonde doesn't mean you're stupid.
In the UK it does as a joke.
It does here...some people are just easily offended.
Can you explain the joke to me?
I guess it would stem from the patriarchal practice of the media portraying women with blonde hair as being more attractive and less intelligent than other women. Much like "firey redheads" or smart people wearing glasses. Since we all know it's ridiculous and untrue, perhaps we can all let someone using an antiquated turn of phrase have a small break...or you know...we could argue
Lol I didn't argue. I just said I don't think it's funny.
no worries. somebody just asked me to explain the joke, that's all.0 -
Its just a joke. If you are offended sorry- I've had blonde hair most of my life, and I'm definitely not dumb. Its just a saying. No reason for anyone to get so upset. Have a nice day!13

If you want to insult yourself, feel free. Just find a way to do it without insulting a whole bunch of other people based on a genetic characteristic.
Plus, if you stop to think about it, it's misogynistic. I have never in my life heard a "blonds are stupid" joke made about a man.14 -

But see - that’s a symptom of negative self-talk that may be holding you back. I doubt you really aren’t smart enough to figure out MFP. Take charge of your decision to be here by reading all you can of the great advice on the forums and go for it in a real way instead of self-deprecating noise getting in your way. Signed - a smart blonde6 -
I'm a blonde, have been all my life, come from a family of blondes, and gave birth to five blondes. I am intelligent, educated, and a teacher. I am not in the slightest bit offended by the "dumb blonde" stereotype and don't have any issue using it myself, and no, I don't have any poor self-image issues. It's also commonly said that blondes have more fun. That red-heads have temper issues. That brunettes are serious, smart, sophisticated. Gray denotes wisdom. I have lived 44 years and have yet to meet a single person who actually believes any of those statements are truth. Everyone knows they're just silly comments. I think some of my blonde sisters need to relax a little!17

Some of you REALLY need to focus on other things. I needed help to fully understand, and your going to chew me out because I made a joke? If you paid attention I said I've been blonde my whole life! And think it's stupid, but I was in a joking mood. Calm down and move on!9

Thank you to those who helped me out!3

I'm a blonde when I get tired of being a brunette. It was a joke and all those turning a simple question with an old stereotyped cliche attached is focusing on the wrong thing in the first place. Say what you want, you still have that right. Those offended can DILL with it!7

MFP is a funny place. OP can make a blonde joke, but if you were to criticize her for using "to" instead of "too" while making it, you would be in violation of forum rules.9

Geebus, MFP. Don't ever change. Such pickiness.
I "got it" and it isn't offensive (I'm blonde and female..) FFS.6 -

Ah okay...so joking that hair color denotes intelligence level is good...correcting grammar as a means of joking about that joke is bad. Got it, my apologies I can remove the post. Too meta.5
