I have decided to participate in RACK this year (Random Acts of Christmas Kindness) and am looking for ideas. Any fun thoughts?

I've never heard of this but what a nice idea!

Wish I could do this instead of buying/receiving gifts from family/friends

I'd actually like Christmas if that was what I could do

I want to teach my kids it's about more than getting gifts, it's a season for kindness. Any why can't you do this??

    Some different thoughts:

    - Get together with single friends who don't have anyone in town for Christmas
    - Visit a Senior Center, or hospital, as many seniors go without someone visiting them for the holidays
    - Veterans center/hospitals
    - Call your local fire and police department and see if they will accept a food donation for those who might be working shifts on the holidays
    - Donate to Salvation Army and Red Cross, donate blood
    - Donate to food shelves
    - Donate to Toys for Tots

There's a lot of good things one can do. Many aren't specific to the holidays.

Thank you for stepping up. :)

LEAVE A LARGE TIP FOR SOMEONE

TAPE A GC ON A GAS PUMP
    BRING COFFE TO OUTDOOR WORKERS

Contact a local orphanage to see if there are any kids you can sponsor for Christmas, get a wish list and buy and wrap gifts for that child/children.

I did a random act today. It's a secret. And it's for a very supportive person on MFP. I took a picture of said very special thing/things. And I might or might not post the pic, if they don't. But I'm getting so much pleasure from doing this special thing, that I'm going to burst.

I drove up to the drive through at one of the fast food restaurants and the young lady working there told me the car in front of me had paid for my purchase. I was pleasantly surprised and paid for the car behind me.

Also, I once saw what appeared to be a homeless man come into a restaurant to escape the cold. One of the restaurant patrons saw the man and asked his waitress to discreetly bring the man a hot meal and to add it to his (the patron's) check. To me, this is the true spirit of Christmas; to love one another and to (in some small way) serve another who can't ever repay us for our kindness.

We go around town putting Christmas cards in random mail boxes that have a $5 in it plus a nice message. We just pick houses at random. It's really quite fun, plus I like the idea that it makes someone else's holiday a bit better (hopefully).

  • ooooo....you will have so much fun.... one of my faves is I buy grocery gift cards at a local discount grocery and then I do some shopping ...while picking out who I want to receive the gift cards...then I ask someone who works at the store to walk up to people and hand them the cards...I get to stand and watch from the periphery and it is simply joyful. Last year one of the couples who received it had taken the bus to the store in the rain with their 4 children...they were soaked and when the guy handed them the card the guy cried. Will never forget that moment.

Years ago my church group would make a bunch of bag lunches and hand them out to the homeless. There's a group in my city and organizes a RACK activity every other month. In the winter, they fill bags with hats, mittens, etc., and place them in strategic areas for the homeless. It gets really cold during Cincinnati winters - it's definitely helpful for those who are homeless and need to stay warm.
  • also delivering donuts and coffee to a local daycare or senior center is fun for the folks who work there

This may be my favorite idea!

This is very sweet but I think it's illegal in the U.S. to go in someone's mailbox.

Very cool ideas here. <3 pudgy

Also, I almost didn't open this thread because I thought it'd be about tits but I'm glad it isn't.

Now I'm thinking of what random act of kindness I can do today. :)

I'm actually doing a food drive tomorrow with other volunteers. We will be going door to door all day collecting non perishable food items to prepare food boxes for families in need for Christmas. I've been volunteering to do this for the last 11 years. There's no better feeling than giving!

Also, I think every parent should clean out their kids toys before Christmas and take the ones they don't use anymore to donate them so other kids can benefit from them.

When my kids were younger, the week before Christmas I would have them pick 10 toys they no longer played with and we would donate them.

Could be, idk. I think tampering with their mail (theft, destruction, etc.) Is what's illegal.

That too, but I'm pretty sure putting anything without postage in it is also. Not that I think anyone ever complained about getting free money in the mail.

Next time I drive thru the Dutch Brothers Coffee drive thru, I'm going to Rack the car behind me. I never did that before. I think I'm going to giggle as I drive away. Wait! Am I doing this for them, or for the silly way It's going to make me feel? I'm going to do that. I think tomorrow because I'm going to pass by there, and I'm really craving a "Double Torcher."
