Overate so much yesterday, scale tells me I lost 2 pounds?

I’m extremely confused lol. So yesterday I just got back from classes and just grabbed a bag of chips and ate a whole candy bar and all this stuff. I checked my scale today, and it’s telling me I lost weight? Like I had breakfast and lunch already today I’m just extremely confused...

Congratulations! Figure out how to bottle that and get rich. Most everybody else is perfectly on point with calories and exercise and gains weight!

Over time, weeks and months, CICO is the truth. At a single point in time, today, it can be one confusing acronym.

Well, what does your calorie count for the last couple of days indicate?

Sometimes we get myopic about what we eat and only focus on one thing (such as the posts that go: "OMG I ate a cheeseburger and went over my count 132 calories I'm such a pig!!!") And not see the whole picture ("For the whole week, I'm doing really well!")

Weight can also fluctuate a surprising amount throughout a day, depending on what you've been doing and so many factors like what you ate, when, what's hanging out in your intestines, PMS bloating, etc.

Well, you don't just overeat one day and put on weight...also, what were your calories like...you can eat all that junk and still hit calories and even if you're over your target, you're likely still in a deficit...your calorie target isn't maintenance.

Weight loss isn't linear. There is no way to know when you created the deficit that led to 2 pounds. It is also too soon to say that you lost 2 pounds. you could be dehydrated, your hormonal cycle could have shifted, you might have had an extra big poop last night. No way to know for sure. I have found it helpful to download a weight loss app so that I can input my weigh in every morning before I eat or drink so that I can see the general trend or direction that I am moving in. Sudden jumps in either direction can make you crazy if you can't look at the bigger picture.
