I am having surgery in Jan which means I can not chew solid food for few weeks and obviously not able to train, it will knock me off course. I am wondering if it is worth bulking muscle now just to lose it all. Would you just maintain the muscle you have then start bulking after been fully healed from surgery. I do not want to use this as an excuse to not train but do feel it could be pointless. Opinions from people who know there stuff would be great

I would never see building muscle as a waste or pointless. If recovery is only a few weeks, I wouldn't stress out about it... most likely you won't lose too much, although you may lose strength..I believe it takes two weeks or more to start to lose actual muscle over time. However.. you do have muscle memory so as soon as you start up again your body adapts pretty quickly to get back the muscle and strength lost.

For example, I ran a bulk and cut right before I got pregnant again with my second. While I did lose some muscle and strength during that time, it all came back pretty fast and I was so much further ahead vs if I didn't bulk in the first place.

Ultimately it's up to you though and your goals.
