IF is not really that hard as long as you do it smartly. start out at 16 fast with 8 feeding window if you don't think you can do more. But what is your goal? are you trying to maintain or loss weight? If you just want to try it and maintain weight just eat your normal amount of food in the feeding window if you can but given the larger window it should be easy enough to eat the normal amount. If it's to loss weight then just stop eating when satisfied even if its lower than your norm. I don't suggest the 20 hour fast 4 hour eating window if you have a hard time skipping meals that can make people miserable.1

IF is not a diet, it's a meal timing schedule. There are a few variations, all of which manipulate intake timing slightly to (perhaps) make eating at a deficit easier when you're trying to lose weight.
Losing weight comes down to consuming less calories, when you eat those calories is not really relevant.... If you want to do IF, go for it. If it doesn't suit you, don't!2
