Compression clothing?

A lot of the workout clothes that I'm seeing are "compression". As a rather "fluffy" person, I don't like the idea of every bump to be outlined for all the world to see while I jiggle through my work out.
What are the benefits of compression work out clothing? Am I at a disadvantage wearing a looser top and pants?
Thanks so much for your advice and comments!

I love compression gear. I sometimes even wear it when I'm not working out!
It makes me feel supported, and slims out some lines so it looks great under button ups.
For the gym I have compression shorts (They kinda look like bicycle shorts) that I wear under my less revealing, exercise friendly basketball shorts. Same for the top. I have a compression t-shirt underneath the over-sized cotton t-shirt I work out in. They help absorb moisture, cool you down quicker, and I adore them.
Would I -just- wear the compression clothes to the gym? Hell no.0 -
Also help decrease the water held in muscles after workout ( Hello! less water retention/ and water weight)0
