I think .5lbs per week is the best choice for you, since you are just at the upper range of a healthy BMI and don't have a lot of weight to lose.

I'm 5'7" and weigh 150lbs, and .5lbs per week is my goal.

Chiming in just to agree with what's already been said. No need to be more aggressive than that.

.5 to 1% body fat per week is ideal. Aim to get adequate protein 120 to 150g per day and include some resistance training to improve overall body composition.

Not to hijack this thread, but I have a problem with borderline eating disorders so just out of curiosity....

    Current weight: 178.8 lb
    Height: 5'7"
    Goal weight: 136 lb
Current weight loss goal: 2 lb per week

Am I crazy or is that ok? MyFitnessPal says to eat 1200 calories per day to do this, but http://www.calculator.net/calorie-calculator.html says to eat 1477 calories per day. (I do yoga for 30+ minutes at least 5 days a week but I have a desk job, so I guessed Moderately Active Lifestyle)

Your activity level on MFP is supposed to be based on your activity without exercise. So if you have a desk job, you're probably sedentary. You then log your intentional exercise and eat back the calories burnt through that (depending on the style of yoga, it may not be very many).

2 pounds a week is the most aggressive goal you can choose. If you choose a more reasonable goal, you'll get more calories to eat per day.

Generally, you should start your own thread, but if you do have a borderline eating disorder, that needs to be address with a therapist first. Doing MFP while not addressing the psychological issues will only make it worse.

@L010 .5 lbs a week, like advised above, is a good weekly goal.

I just wanted to add, having a 250 cal a day deficit needs one to be accurate when logging. Make sure you use a food scale for everything, and double check entries against either the packaging (even single serve) or the USDA data base.

If you are exercising, log it and eat back your calories. You may have to adjust this depending on real life results as exercise calories are estemates. Some people eat 50 or 75% then adjust. ( I found the MFP cexercise cals accurate for me and didn't need to adjust)

    Cheees, h.

@psuLemon - I have been playing with numbers for past month. My challenge is to find high protein food with low carbs. 90% of the time I eat vegetarian. Eggs 4 or 5 times a week. Chicken and Fish once a week.
@middlehaitch- Thanks. Yes my goal for this week is to measure and write all down.

Sietan and tofu are good sources. If you eat eggs or dairy they can be good.

And how low carb are we talking? Why are you doing low carb? And what are your goals?

I've done ~3 lbs weekly with lifting, daily cardio and a super strict diet - lean protein, good fats (good ratio of omega 3, 6, 9 and saturated fat), moderate to low complex carb, no sugar, some fruit, tons of plain vegetables.

But my last cutting phase was much slower as I ate much more fruit and kept my complex carbs moderate (not super low).
I avoided the scale altogether too.
