One day off

I've been at this since May and have lost 40+lbs. I'm very strict with what I eat, even on thanksgiving.

My husband has his annual work xmas party coming up and it includes a pre-party and a pre-pre-party. I plan to drink which I know will lead to eating.

So my question is, will one day off of my lifestyle make me gain weight or derail me? Or is it good to give yourself an occasional day to eat/drink way over calories?

Why would you think one day would be material to anything? It's one day. You don't really put on fat in a day...3500 calories in excess of your maintenance calories is required for 1 Lb of fat...but even then, that's a vast oversimplification of how the human body works. The human body strives for homeostasis...in the short run, your body will utilize surplus energy...consistently under-eating or over-eating is required to override your body's ability to maintain homeostasis.

Will you lose a bunch of weight if you "diet" for one day? Of course not. You also will not gain a bunch of fat or undo all your hard work if you aren't strict with your eating for one day. What you do for one day is not as important as what you do most days.

One day of overeating won't make you fat, just like one day of eating in a deficit won't make you thin....

You'll likely gain some water weight that might hang around for a few days. But it's unlikely you'd even gain a single pound of actual fat.
