    Hey Smokey,
I just wanted to tell you that although they are a hot trend right now,
more and more info is coming out that they are not good for you.
If you really want to quit, these are not going to do it for you, not only that these will
just be another new habit, and a costly one at that, at least as much as cigarettes cost

This is not true. While the initial start-up cost is high, after about the first month you will be saving significant amounts of money compared to regular cigs.

    Hey Smokey,

If you really want to quit, these are not going to do it for you, not only that these will
just be another new habit, and a costly one at that, at least as much as cigarettes cost!

I'm not going to preach, but each cigarette contains over 400 chemicals including
rat poison, and arsenic! UGH!I quit a couple times and went back, I promised myself
I would quit when my DIL was pregnant with my grandchildren. Twice I broke my promise!

I wanted to quit, and I could see things like people telling me how my car smelled,
another told me after I went outside for a smoke and came back in, and said he smelled something
burning! I also noticed if I was smoking and driving by the time I got to the store, if I saw people I wanted
to get rid of the cigarette before they saw me! Anyway, last year 3 days before Thanksgiving my boyfriend had
a stroke! I had changed my normal routine that day, and thank God he led me to do that because I would've found
him dead on the floor! Instead I was home when it happened! I found him paralyzed on the bedroom floor, called 911 and
did what I know I needed to do until help arrived. We had a three hour window! It was found that he had 10 blood clots in the middle of his brain from smoking! He was given a clot buster called Tpa which cost $26,000.00 We were told one of two things
would happen death, or the clots would burst! Thank God the latter happened and he had no residual effects because the clots were deep in the middle of his brain! They by passed his motor skills, Memory bank, and coordination! He was told to stop smoking ASAP. I knew I had to help him do it so I agreed to do the buddy system with him! We both quit the day he came home from the hospital! It's going on 9 months now, which is why I am here trying to shed 10 lbs that I gained! I have never had any extra weight on me, and have always been fit !110lbs is the norm for me at 5'2" I know that doesn't sound like much to lose, but I was robbed at gunpoint and developed a thyroid condition called Graves disease. That means hyper thyroid, and everything in you body races because the thyroid is your main hub besides your heart, but it affects your heart too! I gained 10lbs from all the meds, but lost that, it was hard as hell because I have to work twice as hard as anyone else for my metabolism to kick! now I'm striving to beat the 10 lbs since I stopped smoking! Dr. says I should have reached my plateau and shouldn't gain anymore! It wasn't an increased appetite either, because I haven't got one! The amphetamines stop me from eating! This is another reason for my being here! I have to eat more than just dinner! I need to eat breakfast, which I never did before my problems started! When I got sick I weighed 103lbs, and ate like a horse, never gained a pound! Now I can't lose because I don't eat! so hopefully this will be my ace in the hole! I'm here to look for support from everyone, and support them at the same time. I was a cocktail waitress in the casinos, The Taj Mahal to be exact, and I am a former fitness instructor! I lift weights, walk a couple miles a day, and do cardio! I also spend at least 6 hours out doors! I am 60 years old, very active, but my life has changed so drastically! I never expected this to happen ever, but it has and I have to find my place all over again! It was nice to meet you, thanks for letting me vent! Lyn

    Maybe chill on the amphetamines?
Also, as I have stated, to start up it cost me less than a carton of cigarettes (which I buy). An additional 8 dollars per month for fluid is just over the cost of ONE pack of cigarettes.
Third, your story has nothing to do with ecigs.
Finally, there have been no long term studies on the effects of ecigs. But if you look at the ingredients of an ecig it can be surmised that they are FAR better than cigarettes.

I gave up 7 months ago using an electronic cigarette (an eGo-T) and I've never looked back. They really do work!

I tried them when they first came out. There were only a couple of brands availible and the one I tried made my throat burn and made me sick at my stomach. I gave up on it then because I just couldn't take the stomach upset. I have noticed that there are now more brands to choose from, so I think I will try it again and go with a different brand.

Not sure what this has to do with e-cigs...

Plus your comment on cost is completly false. When I bought the initialset set up it came to around 50 dollars and after that it was less ten a week. I was paying 40 for a carton every week before, so e-cigs actually save a lot of money.

My boyfriend quit cold turkey and only bought the electronic cigarettes to curb cravings when he was drinking. That only lasted the first month or so, now he is fine. Almost a year and a half cigarette free.

An important thing to note is where you are from. In Canada, the electronic cigarettes are almost all (if not all) nicotine-free. So it's really just an oral fixation fix and it's not full of chemicals like others have suggested. It's my understanding that in the United States they make some that actually contain some nicotine. You have to find the right kind for you. Do you want to quit cold turkey but need something to help with the oral fixation? Or do you want to wean yourself off the nicotine?

I think they are a great tool to help people quit smoking. Best of luck in your efforts.

I quit cold turkey about 25 years ago when there was nothing to help you but the nicotine gum which I tried and didn't like. If you want it bad enough, you will lay them down and never look back. It is not easy by any means, but after about three days, it gets easier as that nasty stuff works its way out of your system. Wouldn't you rather be healthier and not have that little white stick dictate your life? Give it a go - you will see the difference rather quickly.:flowerforyou: :smokin:

I have a few coworkers who use e-cigs... they call it "vaping".. lol
problem i see with them is it makes the habit of of smoking more accessible (as someone mentioned you can even smoke them in a club) and really doesn't do anything to break the nicotine habit.

i've tried quitting many times and i'm 4 weeks into using the patch and it's working for me... I'm stepping down patch dosage by 5mg a day and should be off them in 4 more weeks. one of the keys for me has been breaking the associations with smokes. I no longer drink coffee and i've tried not to drink alcohol, both of which have been huge triggers to reach for a butt.

i now drink green tea all day long and with my diet an exercise i haven't felt better in almost 15 years!

anyway you do it... get off cigarettes and break the nicotine addition!

I really want to give e-cigs a go, too because I smoke but I want to quit as well. I attempted cold turkey a few times but it always stabbed me in the back and made me an even heavier smoker. :( Maybe you can tell me how it feels with e-cig? Like do you feel satisfied, does it keep you from going anxious without a cig, and do you feel less inclined to smoke?

I used an e-cigarette and it totally helped me quit. My last real cigarette was 3/28/12. It definitely helps with the oral habit and it was nice to have during the times that you are really craving a cigarette. I gradually reduced the level of nicotin I would use and now I don't even use it anymore. I am totally smoke free and will never be trapped by that addiction again! If I can do it (even with my husband continuing to be a smoker), anyone can do it!!! Good luck and I give you kudos for trying to quit!!!

I swear by my electronic cigarette! I started them a few months ago. Have gone from smoking 20 normal ciggs a day, to about 10 a week. Plus you don't stink of smoke all the time, and you can smoke them almost everywhere!

I purchased my Unique Cig last August.... Tried it... put it away... smoked.... brought it out again... used it... put it away... smoked again... Then I set myself a date of Nov 1 to use it and no more smoking.... I haven't had a cigerette since  I will admit it is really different at first.,,. and it took time to adjust... But I love it now and will never go back... Love the Orange, blueberry pomegrante and vanilla flavors. It is nice cause now I can "vapor" just about anywhere and I don't stink or offend anyone around me... Also, I felt so much better within a week... No more coughing and shortness of breath...

I agree it is up to you... Just do it... But .... Stick with it... It will be worth it

I've been smoke free since September 2012 using my e-cig. I slowly wittled down the nicotine content in my e-juice to zero nicotine over the course of about 6 months. I hardly even touch the thing anymore, but I do keep it handy for when I get those urges...still get them even after 9 months, but I guess that's to be expected...I was a 2-3 PAD smoker for almost 20 years.

I'll be honest, it's a lot easier than any other method I've tried, but it's still not easy. The first few weeks took pretty much everything I had to just reach for my e-cig rather than a smoke...after about a month or so though, I was well on my way. I also kept an online ticker that I looked at everyday for inspiration...it told me number of hours and day smoke free as well as how many cigarettes I avoided, as well as $$$ saved.

It's definitely been worth it...back in September I could barely walk the dog around the block without getting winded and needing a nap...now I'm triathlon training...go figure.

I used e-cigarettes and they helped me quit. I found that I "smoked" the e-cigarette as often as I did real cigarettes at first, but used them less frequently as time passed by. By the 4th month, I stopped using the e-cigarettes completely. I have been smoke-free for over a year now. Good luck :)

I was a pack and a half a day smoker. When I decided to change my lifestyle I started running. I such problems breathing( for obvious reasons) I ordered the e-cig and quit immediately. I have been smoking the e-cigs for over a year. If I can do it, anyone can. I was so addicted to cigarettes. Good luck!
