I'm keeping the pecan pie, cancelled or not

People actually eat pecan pie? I thought it was just for show, like fruit cake.

*kitten* no. This is a thing in the south. I have like 40 pecan trees in my front yard. It sucks because I don't eat pecans that much.

How do you pronounce pecans. There is the wrong way and the right way (southern way).

    Pih cawns

Theres peh cawns and the southern peecans. And no, not heading to the voice thread

OMG Caco. I've never even been to the south and didn't taste pecan pie until my mid 20s. It's the best most delicious pie ever imagined - with whipped cream or ice cream it's the taste of heaven. I knew an 89 year old anorexic New Englander who tasted it as an elder and raved about it pretty much until she lay on her deathbed. It's that good and quite a genius invention.

    Chocolate pecan pie....even better

I’m reluctantly considering this as a possibility because I trust your opinion..

I’ll do another one, one day. You’ll be disappointed and that’s a promise I can keep

    I'm all about the disappointment

Okay, I'm ready to board the Christmas cancellation train. Let's hope it's headed somewhere warm and sunny with nothing remotely seasonal in sight. I want to leave behind the mall music, parking lot fiascos, and the ugly attitudes of my fellow shoppers. My kids are glued to their screens, so they probably won't even notice that I'm gone.

You need to listen to classics. Frank, Dean, Nat, Bing.

    No Maria Carey
No Holly Jolly Xmas by Burle Ives
    No You're a mean one....
    No Grandma got runover....
No Last xmas I gave you my heart....

    Just listen to me.

One decent song from Emerson Lake & Palmer: I believe in Father Christmas. Sung by the late Greg Lake.

I can't tell you how happy it would make me to have Christmas be cancelled.

No gifts, no stress, no obligatory family gatherings that people will hold grudges for if you can't make it, no excess food and drinks (I can do that anytime).

I would still like a couple of days off work tho...like a 'winter break', it's been a while since we've had a stat holiday and I need it.

Just say screw it and hop on a plane and pick a spot randomly , just wing it !

    This is my fantasy!

I'm afraid of hurting my mom's feelings tho and to a lesser degree the grudge holding of 2 other family members who get super bitchy if you miss a family event - I can get over that easy enough, I just don't want to hurt my mom's feelings I guess.

Please package yourself up with one of these and be on my doorstep by Monday. Thanks

If I show up with chocolate on my face and pecan crumbs on my chest will you still let me in?

I know the feeling. The holidays are the most stressful time of year. Both sides of my family have dinner at 12 :00 and their an hour away from each other. I always get a guilt trip when I have to go and I always disappoint someone.

We have a very minimal Christmas at my house. 1-2 gifts (no Santa anymore), pretty normal meals, baking and decorating some cookies, no Christmas music or movies, not traveling. Trying to keep stress down and enjoy our time together as a family.

We had some bad years that led to this. It is okay to change how you do things.
