Diet pop...does it have to go?

I cut out sugary drinks but I still drink a bit of diet pop. I don't know if I should cut it out. What do you guys think?

Nope, it has no calories so you're fine.2

I drink 1-2 cans a day. It's fine in moderation, as is anything else
Adding this in before people come in claiming artificial sweeteners are terrible: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1308408/why-aspartame-isnt-scary5 -
Depends on why you are cutting down. Some studies have shown that since they taste sweet but don't have the sugar in them, they can exacerbate sugar cravings. Some people have noticed that, but others, myself included, don't seem to have that issue.
If you are worried about the hype behind the chemicals, there is no scientific evidence to suggest they are particularly unhealthy, but they aren't particularly good for you either.
If you are worried about drinking too much caffeine, you can easily find caffeine free versions, or cutting back many be good for you.
If you are prone to kidney stones, definitely cut back, they are NOT worth the pain.8 -
I don't care for it personally, but if you enjoy it there's no harm in it.0

It has to go in my face hole.3

Almost zero calories, refreshing, hydrating, enjoyable, safe - would be a very odd thing to exclude.3

Okay. Thanks everyone. I was just wondering. I've heard some stuff about the body treating it like real sugar and it impeding weight loss but I wasn't sure. Will be following but so far it seems like a harmless thing.1

If the body treated it like real sugar then the American Diabetes Association wouldn't be able to recommend it for diabetics. They might make some people hungrier, but the research shows it's highly individual. Some people feel fuller after drinking one and others don't. I haven't delved into the research enough to know whether it's a biological response or a psychological one, but you can try it and see how you feel. Aspartame is a known migraine trigger for some people (along with a lot of other safe foods) so if that's an issue for you then you might want to avoid them.
I drink one a day with my afternoon snack to help hold off hunger until dinner.1 -

FWIW - Real sugar also does not impede weight loss unless you eat too much. Too much would be anything that puts you over you calorie goal for the week. It doesn't matter where those calories come from. Sugar, chicken, or veggies - eat too much and you gain weight. I personally cannot stand the taste of diet soda. I drink the real thing. Just fit it in my goals.
Good luck.0 -
