Fried fish okay?

Personally, I don't mind having baked fish. But my husband would refuse to eat it, he hates baked fish. However if I pan-fry it lightly, he doesn't mind that. Is the oils from of that, countering the effect that I'm eating fish instead of other things like red meat for example? I would like to incorporate more fish in my diet, but if that's the only fried thing I eat, cuz I don't even really use butter or eat many breads. I'm just hoping that eating some fried dinners won't hurt my cholesterol too much. I still eat plenty of vegetables and such, so I think it's okay. I just wanted to hear your guyses side

Do you have cholesterol issues? If so, have you been given specific diet instructions by your doctor or dietician?
If this is just about weight loss and general health, then a varied and balanced diet and enjoyment of food, is a better approach than to cut out foods, food groups and nutrients. Nothing wrong with pan-fried fish in moderation, and nothing wrong with red meat, butter, or bread in moderation, either.7 -

You mean pan fry like just a little oil or butter, in a pan on the stove? I think that's not meaningfully different from cooking it in the oven, just log whatever oil or butter you use. There's also en papillote in the oven if you want to try that -- maybe your baking method just lacks seasoning or gets overdone? https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/sole-em-en-papillote-em-with-tomatoes-and-olives-51101600
I'd keep fried fish as in fish and chips to a minimum due to how many extra cals the oil and batter adds, but that's not the same as pan fried.
Different fishes make more difference to many people than cooking method -- I'd suggest checking out Mark Bittman's Fish cookbook and trying a variety of things, you may find your husband likes more variety than he thinks now.1 -

If you have the cals to spare and like the taste, cook the fish however you like it.
I prefer my salmon poached but sometimes pan fry it for the crispy skin. I always pan fry trout. I like to bread and fry tilapia filets in about an inch of oil. I always steam whole bass, flounder or red snapper. Never liked baking any type of fish.

Have you tried breading the fish and then baking it? Then you could bread his fillets but keep yours without the breading if you wanted.
But to answer the original, nothing wrong with pan-frying. Just log it properly and you're fine.1 -
If you want to try something different, you could smoke fish on the stovetop indoors. Takes 20 minutes and I especially like it for salmon filets or pork chops. I got a Cameron's Stovetop Smoker about a year ago and am very happy with it.
Lots of information available with a YouTube search, Google search or view it on Amazon.
