Frustrated

I'm furious I tore some cartilage in my knee a few months ago. At first I couldn't walk at all, 8 weeks later I'm walking with a cane but I'm still in a lot of pain. I can't pivot without my leg giving out on me. The doctor wouldn't even schedule an MRI unless I did physical therapy first; now they tell me I'm too heavy for surgery. How am I supposed to lose the weight if i can't exercise in the first place?! The reason I put on all the weight is because..(drumroll please)..I couldn't move! Am I insane? Has anyone else experienced something like this? What do i do now?

People can and do lose weight without exercise. Try tracking your food intake and eating at a caloric deficit.

The only thing you need to lose weight is a calorie deficit. No exercise required. You gained because you were burning fewer calories than before when your knee was fine.3

Exercise doesn't burn all that many calories in the whole scheme of things. You gained because you ate more calories than you burned. Not because you didn't exercise.2

It is easier to lose weight while combining food control with exercise.
It is easier to manage weight while combining food control with exercise.
It is far from impossible to manage your weight without any exercise whatsoever.
It is almost impossible to only manage your weight with exercise.
While certain exercises are not an option for you right now this doesn't mean that NO exercise options exist.
Best of luck.

Youtube Chair exercises. There are some great workouts that will help you get moving and get fitter without messing up your leg more. Also i don't know if you have access to an indoor or heated pool, but tbose are amazing for moving the while body without undue stress1

I had a horrible knee injury and couldn't exercise. I started using MFP to track calories and lost weight. You can too.0
