What did I mess up on?

Chicken raw- with skin on and bone in - 1380 grams
Raw rice - 230 grams

1 tbsp oil
Tomato puree- 2 tbsp

Water and salt.

When it was all set and done- it comes out to 1450 grams cooked.

Now - I don't know where I messed up?

Does the serving size = 100 grams? so let's say if I eat 400 grams it means I put in that I ate "4"

You can't compare the cooked weight of the finished meal with the raw weights of individual components.

Put all your raw components in the recipe builder. You can either say it makes X serves, and split the finished product in to that amount of serves. Or weigh the final cooked meal, use the grams as number of serves, then weigh your portion each time- the number of grams will then be the number of serves.

So as in - raw weight of all the items first then raw weight of all the items altogether ?

As in rice raw 230g - chicken raw- 1350 grams. = 1580 raw of both items.

Now 16 servings in total when it's all set and done?

I'm so confused. I can't believe I forgot all this- I've done this last year-now I'm trying to do it again and I keep forgetting.

I thought you take raw weight of all the items when making a dish and then final weight of everything once cooked. Then if it's 1500 grams in total - that means 15 servings and each serving is 100 grams?

No. Weigh raw to determine total calories. Reweigh cooked to determine servings.

Are you eating the skin and bones? I would never weigh meat with the bone still in.

I would set the serving size as the total of the final product and then determine the serving I ate by dividing it by the total weight. In your example that would be 400g/1450= .27

I hope you got it figured out. You did it exactly right. If the final result is 1450, put 14.5 servings in the recipe builder. Each serving will be 100
Grams, so if you eat 400 grams, that's 4 servings. You had it all along.

Yeah thanks. That's how I did it lol. I thought I messed up somewhere. I think I couldn't believe how many calories chicken biryani had. Chicken with skin on and bones in, messes up things however, biryani tastes so good with those.

Next time I'mma just use chicken breast or pork or better yet lamb. I'm hungry now.
