So Net Neutrality died what I can only gather as a pretty silent death the other day. Anyone care to share their thoughts on the yay or nay of it?

    I have Cox for my Internet and used to be I had issues streaming Netflix at times. Well, Cox just partnered with Netflix and it is readily available through their crappy cable boxes now, so I wonder how my Hulu and Amazon TV will be effected. Technically they can throttle the bandwidth and muck with those services to give preference to Netflix since they are a partner.

    If they throttle my porn, I might even have to start sharing video with random online women so I have something for my spank bank. FFS...where does it end.

    I've only seen a few and it isn't my thing. Way too fake, edited and choreographed.

    We tease about porn, but that isn't the crux of the issue. Without the Common Carrier Telcom designation ISP's can basically tell you what you can and cannot do with Internet access. This is all about the monopoly of the broadbad companies control of the pipelines. When telcom got to this point is when Common Carrier classifications were important to keep freedom in the market and consumer rights.

    The monopolistic environment is already effecting pricing and options consumers have. I was just reading an article that in one section of the country there are 50 million households there that have no choice in ISP. And let's not forget about Netflix fight with Comcast a few years back that kind of start this, where Comcast throttled bandwidth for Netflix unless they paid more money. That effected plenty of consumers. Without guidelines and open policy, this can and will continue.

    Working in education (ya know, the community that started and grew the Internet in the first place. Well, us and porn), we use a lot of open source and free tools and services. Without having a revenue stream in those to pay for equal service, they will most likely be moved to a very slow, low tier of service for ISPs.

    All of this will great impact lower class and disadvantage students and people.
