I completely understand how you feel. I went to rehab in March. I was so out of shape and miserable. I am now 9.5 months sober and I'm doing great physically. If you need somebody to talk to, add me. I'd love to help all I can.9

Hi, I am an alcoholic and so understand how hard it is to lose weight. I cannot believe how it has affected my body physically as well as every other way. I’m new here but feel free to add me!3

I'm on the other side of this, as I am in Al-Anon. I lost my wife (she's still alive) because of booze. I encourage all to add me as a friend. But, there's only so much I can do. YOU will have to decide on your path. I can only point in a direction....4

Hello there!!
It does make the struggle a bit more difficult, it seems.
I was in active addiction for almost twenty years. I used heroin and crack. I’ve got almost five years recovery.
So that being said, I went twenty years of cycles of gaining and losing fifty pounds. Probably around ten times. My bones, hair and teeth suffered. I have binge eating issues and emotional eating disorders. I’m allegedly Bipolar Type 1 with manic episodes, but don’t all crack users have manic episodes?
So we have addiction to a substance to struggle with. Which puts our usually subsequent food addictions on the back burner. Which means they don’t go away, they just simmer.
It’s taken me the full five years to get to the point where NOT relapsing on drugs has finally become second hand and I can now fully focus on recovering a healthy weight.
It takes time. Lots of time. And self love. At times tears. And there’s always the addict in me who occasionally suggests that smoking crack will shed the fat easy peasy.
I’m sharing this so that you will know YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Recovery IS possible.
There are going to be many many times in which recovery is more important than weight loss. Again, it takes time. If it takes getting fat to stay off your drug of choice, do that. Then keep trying. I mean, death is a sure fire way to lose weight, but there’s a better way. Never give up on YOU.
Recovery should always be top priority.
Also, exercise is beneficial. It fights the depression we feel when we kick the habit.
Good luck and blessings to us all!!12 -
I hear you. It's a struggle. Daily. But you are not alone. Check out the other thread on Challenges - it's called Less alcohol- december- one day at a time. Lots of people are struggling too. This thread has motivation people who just post and check in. No judgements.3

Hi. I'm an alcoholic 70 days sober. It has been hard, but gradually getting better and better. Recognizing my problem and then resolving to change it has been the best decision I've ever made. Please feel free to add me. Also, the thread Julie is referring to has been a great place for me to share, commiserate, and get inspired.5

I'm confused. Aren't you trying to remain sober?2 -
I come from an addictive family. Mom is a hoarder and Dad is an alcoholic. I struggle with the alcohol side the most but I am also Bipolar 2. It's under control with medicines, but I'm glad to find liked minded people1

Right here with you. Almost 7 months sober. Previously quit for a year and then decided to drink some wine at Christmas. Then kept going for another 2 years. I think all the time about how I could be 3 years sober by now. This time, I think of alcohol as pure poison that I won't allow in my temple. I also live in a rural area with big time boozers. I try to remind myself that everyone else and their mother can be a fall down drunk, but I'm the rebel who quit drinking - against the grain of what is normal and literally expected in my area.4
