I figured I'd share this with folks, just in case it hits home for anyone.
I've been at this whole weight loss/fitness thing for several years. I know what to do, I know how to do it. But sometimes having the discipline to actually do it can be a challenge. I'm coming off about a year of not caring... I'm back to regular logging, setting goals, and tracking progress.
The last 2 weeks or so I've been maintaining at 180-181 lbs, despite trying to lose... and I had another disappointing weigh-in this morning (181 lbs). I started thinking that maybe I needed to rerun my numbers or re-evaluate my logging/estimates. I got to work and updated my spreadsheet, and sure enough... the numbers don't lie. A deficit of 88 cals per day very easily gets washed out in all the estimates and assumptions. Looking at the daily numbers, the "occasional" "bad/cheat" day is counteracting all the other "good" days.

I'm not posting this to argue for or against cheat days, "bad" foods or anything else. I'm not really arguing for or against anything. It's just a reminder to watch your numbers over time. Even if you "win" most days... you need to "win" the long term.

Thank you. I needed to hear this today. I've been at this for a long time too and recently, I've "stalled" for about three weeks (ever since Thanksgiving). I'm going to double down on the weighing and measuring and get back to accountability every day, not just most days.3

It isn't just impatience that leads me to going with a hefty deficit when I want to lose. I like some margin for error. "Cheat days" are usually still deficit days.0

4605 with 0 calories out? And 631 carbs.....That’s a helluva Monday. I’m guessing football, beer, pizza and wings.1

I'd have to go back and look... But I don't think it was anything that fun/interesting.0
