Insanity: Max 30 and running

So, today is my 10th day of Insanity Max 30. I've been enjoying it (though can only do the modifier!), but eventually I want to get into running, and I'm not sure if I should start now or wait until I've done a round or two of IM30. I was thinking of doing Couch to 5K to start at a beginner level and keep myself focused.

I'm a 5'7" female and am currently 94kg. I'm very unfit, and though I lost 20kg years ago from P90, I put it all back on when I got depressed last year. My main goal right now is to lose weight, but I also want to get fit. I don't want to take on too much at once and burn out and I'm not sure the best way to add or stagger workouts to avoid plateauing or dying lol.

I had a quick look at a calendar for insanity max which looks like you are working out 6 days a week. How are you doing recovery wise from that schedule? If running is your goal have a look for a program which has that a focus, a good one will incorporate some strength training as well.

I am in the opposite position in that I run twice a week now and walk 3-4 times a week, I would like to go back to some weightlifting to round out my program however am finding it difficult to work it into my schedule with the rest of my commitments. Because my runs are my main goal/focus I prioritise those. EG. my walking sessions are actually a side job but I have flexibility in the timing so I wont do it on a Wed morning if possible as I run Wednesday night, my legs need time to recover after a run so I wont do strength training till Thursday night.

Usually one is a primary goal/focus and the other is done to compliment the first/main goal. Maybe you need to decide which is your priority.

BTW I am 5"4 95-97kg and run. Some weeks I have to stop and walk as well others I can do my whole 5km non-stop. For me that still depends on other activity done, food, sleep etc. At this point I am not going to get any better until I lose some weight or add in a more structured program or both.

I started running after I completed insanity - I think it gave me a fairly good cardio base but you get better at running by running.

As max 30 is mainly cardio I would do one programme and then the other instead of running both at the same time.
